Alpina E31 5.7 and E38 6.0

Post by B10BOV » Fri Dec 11, 2020 2:23 pm

A polite ask whether anyone might be able to put me in touch with UK owners of really nice examples of one of either of these? E31 5.0 and E38 5.7 obviously an option. Keen to find the rarest original cars, in the best possible condition.

I have been flattered to be invited onto the Steering Committee of one of the leading Concours events in the UK, and asked to curate, amongst other things, a class of Youngtimers.

My aim is to assemble the best collection of Youngtimers, side by side, focussing very much on Alpina, BMW, Mercedes, AMG and Brabus.

Further, if you know of any owners of any of the following, I would really appreciate hearing from you:

E31 BMW 850 CSi
E30 BMW M3 Ravaglia
E36 BMW M3 GT or GT2
Brabus EV12
Mercedes 560SEC widebody by AMG
Mercedes 190e 2.5-16 Evo II
Mercedes AMG 'Hammer'
Mercedes SL70 or SL73 AMG
Mercedes 500E
Mercedes E60 AMG
Mercedes 450SEL 6.9

Likewise if anyone knows of the best forum for Youngtimer Mercedes, such insight would also be very much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,

Tom

Bit confused, in the heading you say E31 5.7 and E38 6.0, but in the text you say E31 5.0 and E38 5.7 :think

If you are looking for a E38 5.7 Kevin E24man has a very nice one.

Not at all, perhaps I didn't phrase it right.

Optimum would be the respective halo vehicles of the model.

If we draw a blank, then the E31 5.0 and E38 5.7 would be of great interest.

Many thanks for your suggestion, it is very much appreciated.

These are the only UK cars I'm aware of from your wishlist that are currently in possession of a valid MOT, there may be a couple of extras but I've lost track of a current registration so can't check further.

BMW ALPINA B12 5.7 [E38] #111
https://www.alpina-archive.com/?p=13619&nmt=B12-5-7-111

BMW ALPINA B12 5.7 [E38] #118
https://www.alpina-archive.com/?p=2290&nmt=B12-5-7-118

BMW ALPINA B12 5.7 [E38] #130
https://www.alpina-archive.com/?p=2295&nmt=B12-5-7-130

BMW ALPINA B12 5.7 LWB [E38] #040
https://www.alpina-archive.com/?p=7348&nmt=B12-5-7L-040

BMW ALPINA B12 6.0 [E38 LCI] #031
https://www.alpina-archive.com/?p=2326&nmt=B12-6-0-031

BMW ALPINA B12 6.0 [E38 LCI] #045
https://www.alpina-archive.com/?p=2329&nmt=B12-6-0-045

Then these may have MOT's but I don't know current registration:

BMW ALPINA B12 5.7 [E38] #038
- Recent import from Japan (LHD)

BMW ALPINA B12 5.0 [E31] #9318
- Was sold late 2019, reg changed post sale.

Alpina B12 5.7 Coupes are very thin on the ground in the UK; there were only 3 right hand drive cars ever really known about (despite more being built...) and one of them is now overseas in the Far East (#10)

Of the two in the country, I believe the Avus blue car (#47) is still being restored and the Mauritius Blue car (#13) was sold at auction last year and has not been seen since.

Alpina B12 6.0 Saloons and Limousines are a little more plentiful with 6 right hand drive saloons ordered and sold in the UK and one (lwb) rhd Limousine bought in from Japan.

Rhd B12 6.0 Saloons.
#15 Alpina Blue, owned by a infrequent forum member and probably still SORN'd.
#17 Oxford green, not well and not running when last seen and not MoT'd for years.
#31, Mora metallic, up for sale for a couple of years after restoration - the vendor has let the car be used for publicity before to help sell it.
#35, Blue, not seen for years, no pictures, no info, nothing, nada.
#45, Midnight blue, owned by a forum member and Alpina addict.
#66, Estoril blue, recently surfaced and seen following a near fatal write off many moons ago

Rhd B12 6.0 Limousine.
#15, Anthracite, this is the car imported from Japan and for sale at the moment (there are two other rhd lwb 6.0 cars still in Japan).
Thank you for this, most insightful, makes my perceived job even more of a challenge to relish.

Amusingly I was driving side to side, down the M23, here in Sussex, with a blue 5.7 Coupe, in my Blau II B10, I hadn't quite realised the significance of that at the time!

I have been in touch with two Individuals here in the UK:
- One with a silver 96 E-Kat LWB (Number 25) so that's a 6.0 I believe?
- One with a mint RHD black LWB 5.7, a recent import (Japan). Stunning condition, and the striped Alpina leather on the inside.

So as far as we know,....there aren't any active 5.7 Coupe or 6.0 owners on the Register forum?

Much appreciated your input, truly,

Tom

Thanks Simon, that is great to hear. What colour is the car? Would be great to hear a little more? Perhaps you might send me a private message?

I am also contactable on Instagram, if you use that? I am @tch911

Much appreciate your posting,

Tom

The Silver #025 must be the 5.7 as they only produced 23 LWB 6.0's in total. Any idea how long it's been in the UK? It was last known in Japan

Not seen any E31 B12 5.7's that are currently roadworthy on the forum but there is a member with an E38 B12 6.0

I think B12 5.7 coupe #47 is on the forum, currently a work in progress per another thread, after a small off.

B12 5.7 E38 #130 is my own luxury transport, and is wrapped up warm for the winter as of a few weeks back

Best of luck

Hi all,

The Silver #25 B12 5.7 E-Kat is mine. I imported it from Japan 3-4 years ago and it has been sat in my unit along with a few other bits ever since.

When I purchased the car from a dealership over there it was on 62k miles and it can’t have done more than 100 miles since, unfortunately. It’s currently in for some work that I have been meaning to do since it arrived but it should be ready for summer. I attend a lot of meets/shows all over the country so, restrictions permitting, I plan to be taking the B12 out a lot for summer 2021 after a fresh detail :D

Photo below, I’m new to this whole thing so hoping it’s showing.

Based in Berks so will be going to every show I can around here. I usually attend Stonor Breakfast meet near Henley-on Thames. I believe one of the lads from here turned up last time in his Green B5 Touring and said more of you Alpina guys will start coming. Hope to see some of you there.
