Rear air suspension units. Wears out at 100k km on all F11s
They decided to go a bit earlier on mine! I was driving home from a week in London at the weekend when I got a warning light on the dash followed by a serious lack of rear suspension. The near side rear air bag had failed. It's been into my local BMW dealer in Shrewsbury today for a replacement.

I've continued with the extended warranty so that covered the failed unit. However, I wanted both swapped so had to pay for the off side unit.

Service was good from the dealer, all done in a day and no complications. It was dark and very wet when I collected it so I didn't get chance to check it over - fingers crossed...... Felt great on the drive home though.

I finally got around to buying a space saver for the B5. It was always going to be a bit of a gamble finding one that fits, but I ordered one for an F01 7 Series as the B5 runs the front brakes from one of these. Had a test fit today and it’s spot on!

I'll dig the part number out if you are interested in buying one. I ordered and collected through my local BMW dealer.

For storage, I've ordered a spare wheel bag that should be the right size for the space saver - fingers crossed as it hasn't arrived yet. I'm aiming to tie it down in the back corner of the boot with a strap through the wheel connecting to one of the tie down points. I've previously used a strap over the top of the wheel but you lose so much extra luggage space. This way it should still stay put in the event of an accident - I'll post a pic when it's sorted.

I really wish there was a space under the boot floor for a space saver - I'm sure you could modify it to fit but I don't really want to hack it around.

As promised, a picture of it in situ and the part number (ignore the sealant above it).

It’s secured with a strap around the wheel and down to the tie down point in the corner. I had to cut a small slit in the bag to pass the strap through. I’ve packed a few other things in too which is why it looks big - jack, compressor, Disk Lock etc.
