I have the Dynavin N6 fitted to my X5 with the DAB & TV modules fitted. I use an old iPhone 6 as an iPod plugged in under the armrest where the original phone was. My own phone connects on ignition and responds on voice to read messages or make calls. Can plug in a USB stick. Maps are igo and good on an sd card. Works well with DSP original amp. Been in about 6 years. I do fancy an android but couldn’t possibly ditch this which has been faultless. I do have a reverse camera and forward camera plugged in which work as should. Not sure what the newer N7 adds to the party. They are expensive compared to the opposition.

I’ve been looking at the Andream site too as they provide the same unit for CarPlay or very similar, but on the back of a replacement screen for either a CCC or CIC unit, for around 240 Euros inc. I think we have had the last of the CCC nav map updates from BMW now as there hasn’t been one since 2019.

By all accounts the replacement screen is clearer and HD but needs an anti-glare cover as the finish is very reflective.

Great work Asim, CarPlay seems like a good solution and the stealth install is really neat. I thought you were looking at the Bluebus for your your B10?

Hi Barry

Yes, in two minds but I think I am preferring a new (android) head unit for the B10 to bring it up to date but not alter the factory look too much.

A little mod done. Always felt the smaller idrive controller of my CIC nav looked old and aged the interior a bit. New cars with NBT nav have a bigger rotary controller and look much better. You can buy a nicely made rotary controller that sits over the original and can be easily removed if you want to revert to factory spec.

The top cap on the original controller pops off and allows the new one to be correctly illuminated by the LEDs at night

Very pleased with the quality and how closely it matches the factory version (colour and finish of silver, the side grooves and rubber strip/grip on the side). Illuminates perfectly at night too 8)

Thanks Brian!

Of course Paul:

idrive controller update

It comes in a neat box and with a self adhesive ring already applied (you just need to peel off the backing). I didn't realise this and tried using one of the spares provided and wondered why it wouldn't stick :doh

If you buy one and this doesn't make sense let me know and I'll explain it better!! (It doesn't come with instructions)

Great write-up about CarPlay retro fit. I've just ordered one of these generic CarPlay kits for my F31 D3. Now thinking of upgrading the size of my knob too (wonder if Mrs Churchie will notice when she's in the car).
