Hello

Post by 128 » Thu Oct 28, 2021 4:09 pm

Hi All

I have recently joined the Alpina club with an E91 D3 (mono-turbo) touring

I am super impressed with the car, in particular the suspension, which is miles better that the M-Spot suspension I have on my E93 335i.

I am having some work done on the car at the moment as it was starting to look and feel tired and will post some photos when it is presentable

In the meantime, i have what are probably some "noob" questions

- There are no obvious sings of a leak but the car is going through what feels like an excessive amount of oil, is this a common thing on these engines or is there a common problem that needs rectification that might sort this?

- Has anyone found a clever way of adding Apple carplay to one of these?

- I need quite a few specific Alpina parts and would appreciate a recommendation of where is good / reasonably priced to source these.

Finally, the car is between Hertfordshire and London all the time, if you see it / us feel free to say hi

Thanks

Andrew

Welcome aboard! Do we presume your D3 is #128 then? :D

Check out the Parts Catalogues to find out the parts ALPINA changed from the base vehicles. Fortunately with the E9x D3's many parts were actually from the BMW parts bin rather than unique ALPINA parts.

Anything with a 7-digit part number is ALPINA and only available from a BMW dealer or https://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/alpina_alloys in the UK or https://www.fmw-tuning.de/?language=en in Germany. Otherwise 11-digit are BMW parts but not from a 320d.

Looking forward to seeing a few more pics.

If I recall this is the one with an ALPINA boot mat which is an unusual extra on an E9x D3, it also looked like it had white/cream stitching on the steering wheel rather than green/blue (or am i thinking of a different car?)

Hi Bob,

You are correct this has the Alpina boot mat. Its in amazing condition for the age of the car and looks great, though i need to teach my kids how to vacuum stripes into it.

You might have inadvertently answered one of my questions, the steering wheel stitching is nondescript and i though needed a really good clean to bring out faded Alpina colours but if it were white that would explain why it looks that way -- any suggestions for getting it back to some of its old glory?

I suspect this is just the car you are thinking of, it needs a little cosmetic love, but is great to drive. I found this photo from the day i got it with it on steel 16" wheels (the Alpina 19s were in the boot)

Having just had a look though the pics I have saved, it looks like the white stitch was 'standard' on the E91 D3, I only have pic's of one car which isn't dead clear, but looks like blue/green, all the others have white. Have you tried a leather cleaner or some washing up liquid and a gentle scrub with a toothbrush or similar?

Blue/Green: #081
White: #110, #120, #121, #122, #127, #128, #129, #130, #139, #141, #142, #143, #144, #145, #166, #179, #189, #190, #221, #225, #237, #238, #240

The boot mat is probably a dealer fit/retro-fitted option as it seems unlikely someone would pay the £1.5k bespoke order charge and then only spec the £110 boot mat. Do you have any of the original paperwork/spec with your car to confirm?

FYI - your car should be published to the Archive later this week: https://www.alpina-archive.com/?cat=414&paged=5

Welcome and a great addition to your 335i too, looks very clean, I love the Alpina Tourings in all series, the 16”wheels may be good for winters? I’ve just bought some grubby Style 339s for refurbishment.

When i had the wheels refinished I took the opportunity to replace all the "consumable" parts so the valves, locks and centre caps were all replaced with new parts.

The end result exceeds my expectations and completes stage one of my works on this car

Let me know what you think of the colour

Finish looks good, but not personally a fan of dark wheels anymore, I'd've stuck with Sparkle Silver (you did ask  )
