B3 3.3 torque converter solution

Post by Illias2000 » Sat Nov 11, 2023 1:41 am

Hi, im from belgium and i have the common problem of torque converter lockup.

Im looking for the zf reference of it, i already have the alpina ref, and i wrote to alpina there in belgium and they didnt answer.

But i heard something around 1000€ for the part.

If you guys have some good plans, let me know !

Thanks.

I have heard that the TC is NLA, but can't confirm that.

However, when I had my gearbox repaired (cracked D drum and general overhaul), they rebuilt the TC very effectively and reset the lock-up mechanism.

Ok, thank you very much for the info's.

Does anybody knows the difference between an alpina TC and a standard one ?

Externally there's no difference - there are some subtle internal differences. If I recall correctly, it's the friction plate material.

As Charles says, they can be rebuilt but it's best to find a ZF specialist that can do the machining, welding and balancing. I had mine rebuilt a couple of years ago by Stephens Engineering in Ware who do all of the work in house and understand Alpina-specific gearboxes.
