Blue Velvet

Post by Meister » Sat Nov 09, 2024 9:42 pm

Folks,
My question is as to the above.
As I understand it Blue Velvet colour code 576 was used on E36 variants, Blue Velvet colour code 379 on E46 variants.
Mines the latter, however are both metallic? Is one darker than the other? Information would be most appreciated, thanks.
Regards

Yeah, I’ve dealt with both of those shades before. The Blue Velvet 576 on the E36 and the 379 on the E46 are both metallic, but I’ve noticed the E46 one has a bit of a deeper, darker tone. If you’re comparing side by side, the E36 version looks a touch lighter. I had an E46 in that 379 Blue Velvet, and it definitely had more of a rich, dark finish compared to the older E36 I saw in 576. So if you’re trying to match something, just be aware they’re not exactly the same.

Wenner,
Thanks for that mate. Mines 379 as it should be, not seen the 576, E36 colour so wasn't sure if it was lighter or darker. Yer can't really gauge it from Internet photos.
Cars getting a fully respray, methinks nearly 25 yrs of weather has taken its toll, plus I had to renew the front wings 5 yrs ago plus the boot and the colour wasn't matched as good as I wanted it. Pretty difficult to do so with new paint.

Mate,
I'm not going to get much change out of 10 fatt ones! That said the boys have done work on the rear sills each side in house with an English wheel and also the rear arches.
The rub downs taken 3 days besides the base primer and re rub down, which was another 2. I was quoted 130 hours all in and I expect that. Many would baulk the price however, I do all my own maintenance so in 16 years it's cost me parts that's all. If I add the labour it's way more than the paint job. 087 deserves the whole shebang and as I'm keeping it and never selling its worth it. My daughter Shelby will take it when I peg it!
I'm bringing it to Gaydon Museum in April, see it there alongside the B4
Have a gander at Amazing AUTOS, Llanelli, see some of the kit that goes through there!
