Tyre and Brake advice please

Post by Rav » Wed Jan 03, 2024 4:57 pm

MOT passed at the end of last year, the only advisories were the tyres and also the brakes.

Can anyone suggest where to buy the tyres and brakes from? I am keen to have the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 - although 5 is the latest model. Black Circles dont have the rears in stock..

I also need discs and pads - anything else to replace whilst in there?

Cheers

Regards tyres i've just put 2 rear Michelin PS4S on mine at Kwik Fit (they've got a January deal on 10% off for 2-3 and 20% off for 4)

Other than that i can highly recommend Camskill for mail order if you can get them fitted and balanced easily and cheaply yourself locally.

In my instance this time Camskill and cheap fitter would have only been £20 less than Kwik Fit so i went with the latter for convenience...

Hope that helps!

I know diddly about the older B3 Rav but I can second Marc's advice regards Camskill and Kwikfit.

Regarding the brakes, if you know or can find the part numbers and also belong to the BMWCCUK there are some serious discounts available at Cotswold via the BMWCC website.

Saved me a shed load of £££. 4 rotors/pads/sensors, bolts, springs and slide pins, all BMW original. I then got Sytner to fit them, the service advisor nearly fell of her chair when I showed her what I'd paid vs what they tried to charge.

Let me know if you find PS4 rears, but I fear they are hard to get anymore.

Brakes are standard E46 - probably 328i for yours.

Thanks all. Camskill have told me that PS4s are no longer available and have suggested PS5 is the new replacement.

Does anyone have any experience of comparison between the two?

I got two PS4s for the front of my E39 B10 the week before Christmas from Merityre. So they are still around with some stockists.

Can’t remember where but I read the Pilot Sport 5 was a direct replacement for the Pilot Sport 4 but not the Pilot Sport 4S as that is for higher performance cars so still the current tyre choice over a PS5. I’ll need 265/35 19” rears next year and they are only available in PS4S flavour last time I looked.

Quite a few reviews point out the PS5 is very similar grip and wears a little better than the PS4.

With regards to the brakes, i had my front disks and pads replaced a while ago. The disks are standard E46 330i with uprated pads for the Alpinas.
