Alpina D5 parts availability

Post by davetukx » Mon Aug 01, 2022 8:59 pm

Hello all.

I am the owner of Alpina D5 BiTurbo no.24 and until recently it has been the best car I have ever owned.

However, a few weeks ago, my the car suffered a differential failure. The differential has now been replaced, but when attempting to refit the propshaft to the differential, my garage has found that the mounting flange on the propshaft had been bent when the differential failed. Having discovered that you need to order a complete new propshaft (apparently the propshaft is unique to the D5), my garage has had to place an order with BMW in Germany, only to find that a propshaft that was stated to be in stock did not actually exist. They have now ordered a new propshaft but neither BMW or Alpina in Germany will provide a delivery date for this item. The last update was that it has to be specially manufactured by the OEM.

As this now means that my car has now been off the road for over six weeks and I have no alternative means of transportation. The car is obvously still undriveable.

Does anyone have any thoughts or advice on this? My garage is very much taken the attitude of 'it'll arrive when it arrives' and I have little confidence in them being able to chase up delivery, etc.

I have emailed Gary Lott at Alpina UK who couldn't offer much assistance, and Alpina in Germany who seem to be ignoring my emails.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear the issues you are suffering, lengthy lead times are never good are they...

Have you considered a specialist company like these for instance:

http://www.cpsdrivelink.co.uk/

I have used them in the past to manufacture bespoke driveshafts, but they also do prop shafts and if you look on their site they advertise repairs.

Might be an option to get you going again sooner?
