Z4 Roadster S

Post by dkatwa » Mon Jun 20, 2022 6:07 pm

hi All. Selling my Z4 roadster S 2004. I can't find any technical information online to see if my car has a Vanos. I believe the Z4M has it but not sure about my car. Anyone got any info please?
cheers

Yes, but it's single vanos - the Z4M has a dual/double vanos engine

Single vanos only operates on the intake camshaft, dual/double vanos operates on both intake & exhaust camshafts

Thanks for the quick reply PerryGunn
Garage took Vanos position readings and they are:
Inlet actual 120.36
Inlet specified 119.98
Inlet reference position 119.75

Exhaust actual. - 67.12
Exhaust specified - 105.00
Exhaust reference - 60.00

Inlet edge adaptation - 0.75
Exhaust edge adaptation 0.00

Does this look right?
Cheers
Deepak

Have a look at https://bimmerprofs.com/vanos-reference-position/ it should help you to interpret/understand the measurements

A bit too technical for me PerryGunn, but thanks. One question... If my car only has Inlet vanos only, the exhaust vanos readings are irrelevant . Am I right?

Yes - it's very difficult to measure something that's not there :D

Thanks PerryGunn.
It would be great to meet fellow Roadster S owners to see how my car compares to theirs. I have never seen another one so only have a sample of one to go on!
cheers

If you haven't done so already, join z4-forum.com - there are several RS owners on there and there are a number of meets at various locations. If it's not to far from you ZEDFest at Shepshed in August is a good one as there are always a few Alpinas there
