D3 BT E90 wont rev past 2,000 RPM

hey,

By D3 BT E90 (2011) has recently started to occasionally refuse to rev past 2,000 RPM, I feel like the turbo(s) aren't spinning up?

Has anyone experienced anything like this before? any idea what the cause was?

- happens for between 20 - 120 seconds near the start of a journey (not every time, maybe 1-2 times a week)
- I've replaced the air filter
- put it on the computer, the only error code is "4CA0 oil pressure switch plausibility"

My current thinking is to have a look at the DFP or turbo actuator, both seem like fairly big jobs, so if anyone has any ideas before I do that it would be much appreciated?

Hopefully, it isn't the turbo itself... that look very pricy

We had a similar issue on my wife's 118d when it occasionally refused to rev when warming up. Sounds very similar. Turned out to be the EGR valve so maybe worth checking that too. The first garage I took it to saw nothing on the code reader, but I took it to the place that looks after my B5 and they diagnosed it with their machine. Fingers crossed it's nothing too drastic.

The EGR is a good place to start and you can take the top part of the EGR off without loosing all the coolant to see what state its in. It could be coked up and blocked. If it is you can either have it cleaned, replace it or delete it. (just watch out if deleting as could be an issue come MOT time).
Another thing to think about it getting the car Carbon cleaned, I did mine when I changed my inlet manifold and cleaned the EGR, not sure it gave any better MPG or anything but the car defiantly felt smoother afterword's.
Talking to the guy who did it and he was pretty up front and reckons all car's could benefit from a carbon clean every few years. Of course that could be just a sales pitch, but it does make sense and if you treat it like a service item makes sense.

Whilst carbon cleaning is surely a good idea, we had ours done before the EGR was diagnosed in an attempt to resolve the issue. It made a slight improvement but after a month or so it was starting to play up again. Since having the EGR replaced it has been perfect (touch wood).

thanks for the suggestions!

I've taken the EGR cooler & valve off. They were filthy, i'm cleaned them with oven cleaner and rinsed them through atleast 8 times already and i'm still going. Hoping this is the problem, but it's looking promising - thanks again for the suggestions!
