Re: e46 fuel pumps
I changed mine last year and in the absence of any OEM markings on the removed unit, I bought and fitted a Pierburg. It's also worth changing the gaskets for the tank lid (I used genuine BMW).
Hope that helps,
Mike

Re: e46 fuel pumps
One of the two fuel senders was failing but it wasn't clear which one - the LHS sender or the RHS combined sender/pump.- so I changed both, particularly as the pump had delivered 367k miles of fuel!
The fuel pump unit was £300 (incl vat) and the other was £130. Both were complete with gaskets. These were OEM.

Re: e46 fuel pumps
Hap,
Pump is under the back seat, drivers side (at least it is on my cab...)
Not a difficult change once you unscrew the big ring but do it with minimum fuel in the tank
Unless you have issues with the fuel guage, I'd leave the level sensors alone.
For part numbers, I use realoem (using the BMW ID) and then cross-check with your preferred parts supplier/dealer.
Hope that helps.

Re: e46 fuel pumps
Thanks I think the gauge is working as it should
Re: e46 fuel pumps
Because of the saddle fuel tank that spans the prop shaft, there are two level senders. The LHS unit is just a sender and the RHS is a combined pump and sender.
Don't have part numbers but both were OEM and came with replacement gaskets. The pump unit was £263 + vat and the LHS sender was £107 + vat. Labour was 0.75 hours to do both so the total paid was £430 + vat.
Ideally, the tank should be as empty as possible and the job is very straightforward. If it were me, I would consider changing the stand-alone sender at the same time, but it sounds like it is currently ok.

Re: e46 fuel pumps
Yes quite
Thinking about it last week or week before my reserve light came on with 55 miles range normally comes on at 41 which I thought was strange and then later in day it stayed off and didn’t display until it range had gone done could this be a sender issue
It hasn’t happened again as I fuelled up and have just under a half tank
I’ve been away for a week so car been stood wondered if maybe linked
