Spare part found after washing my car....what is it?

Post by Rav » Tue Nov 16, 2021 11:15 am

It seems that I have to clean the car after each use these days. I am trying to do it properly with the 2 bucket method, snowfoam etc.

After wiping the door shuts down yesterday, i moved onto the engine bay. I like to wipe down the channels and bonnet area. I found this part in my car drying towel. For the life of me, i have no clue where this part fits.

Any ideas please?

Looks to me like the rubber guide/stop which clips into the bonnet (one each side, usually) to prevent sideways movement and help to align the bonnet whilst closing, so the bonnet and wings do not come into metal to metal contact. They often get caught and pop off during wiping down under the bonnet.

Bizarrely I've got spares, mainly for E9x I think. Anyone need one let me know: you can have them for postage cost

Thanks - makes sense as it would sit on the bonnet and not the engine bay side?

Correct: there's usually a small opening in the seam of the bonnet edge they push into.

You Sir are a hive of knowledge. Thank you so much. My mistake was that I was looking into the engine bay and not the raised bonnet.

I checked against the other side and on my car they seem to sit a little way behind the cut out. Should they sit in the cut out itself?

Sorry, Rav, missed this until now. Correct position, but I think it's in the wrong way around. Spin it 180degrees on its axis so the 'barbs' are in the cutout. If you look at the one the other side it should be similar position and orientation

Brilliant - thanks for coming back to me on this.
So to confirm:

They are in the correct location, but this one needs to be spun around by 180 degrees.
Will do this tomorrow.
