DIFFERENT SIZED VALVES! HELP! Classic 20x10 centre mount
Hi guys,
It seems the replacement valve I bought from BMW is LARGER than the original centre mount valve I removed from my 20x10 (part number 3611712C) wheel. See pic below.
LEFT: Valve sold by BMW dealer under 3610061 RIGHT: Original valve removed from Alpina wheel (note: it's not upside down).
Very confusing. Are you supposed to cut a bigger hole and tap a new thread? Or, perhaps Alpina used a smaller valve for a short period of time on the assembly line? Maybe bmw mislabelled the part? Emailed them, waiting for a reply. Your expert knowledge would be very much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Mounting Instructions For Internal Tyre Valve
I don't know anything specific about your wheels, but I do have this saved Service Bulletin from ALPINA about general process for replacing a tyre value.

Re: DIFFERENT SIZED VALVES! HELP! Classic 20x10 centre mount
Hi, are you able to accurately measure the OD of each? I suspect the genuine, removed, Alpina valve has an OD of 0.383" which is 1/8" BSP with a thread pitch of 0.035" (28 TPI). The new one on the left probably has an OD of 0.393" (10 mm). Unable to comment on pitch, but I would suspect a 1 1.25 mm pitch. Thus not interchangeable. I would not recommend drilling and re tapping to suite the new item has it is highly likely there would be insufficient thread depth.

Thanks for the thinking! I'm not with the items (this photo is from the wheel repairer) but I take your point. What do you think a solution may be? Alpina aren't even responding anymore to this one, can't explain why the original thread is smaller.
Only option seems to give it a go and proceed to redrill and tap a new thread? Or buy another valve from a different source and hope it matches the original. That said, none online look like the original one removed from the wheel on the right.

I’d try ordering from another dealer if you able to wait under the correct part number you quoted. It’s possible there is an error on the stock
Some on here use cotswold who are highly rated and their parts dept are au faut with alpina
Can ask the repairer send more pics

Also does your car have the tyre pressure Monitor? If so there is a similar looking bolt that looks like your pic

Re: DIFFERENT SIZED VALVES! HELP! Classic 20x10 centre mount
Hi, I would not recommend drilling and retapping. Typically for 1/8 BSP the OD is 9.7 mm, root 8.56mm, Tap drill for M10 x 1 is 9.1 mm. Thus you would not be removing all the thread before tapping the new thread. Very risky as it is likely that the threads would not be full formed. If there is sufficient meat then fit a Helicoil, which would give a full thread from, but you need to be 100% sure that there is sufficient sealing area on the valve face if going that way. I would hold out and get the correct part.

Re: DIFFERENT SIZED VALVES! HELP! Classic 20x10 centre mount
I bought a set of 4 for mine from Lloyds of Carlisle, eBay here :
ALPINA Alloy Wheel Hub Cap Concealed Air Valve Schrader Screw-In 91473610061
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALPINA-Alloy ... 3776701245?
These were correct for my Classic C01 9x19” Alloys for the B3 BiTurbo.
Pity the refurbishes mucked up the threads in one and it leaked so had to fit a helicoil anyway. The valve supplied by your dealer appears to be the same.
