BMW Trackstar Tracker

Post by churchie386 » Wed Jun 16, 2021 1:11 am

I will likely need a Category 5 / S5 for my D3 S.

What is the experience of forum members with BMW approved Trackstar trackers?
Any other tracker recommendations?

No experience of those I'm afraid but I have and have also had on previous cars a Tracker UK 'battery powered' tracker that has a 5 year life span (sealed unit, whole thing needs replacing at the end) which I liked the idea of as no cutting into the loom and no drain on the car when not used (albeit I do use a trickle charger now on my current car which would remove the issue). Not a cheap option when you add in the subscription too but one I'm happy with.

It works.
No idea where the module is hidden (haven't looked) or how it's wired in. The fob battery lasts around 5 weeks before Tara will call to say your car is moving without authorization.
The android app is still work in progress. Some interesting features, like replaying journeys with actual speeds. (Self incriminating or what?)
Customer service quite good when speaking to a human.
No comparable I'm afraid, seems to do its job.

I have the Cat 5 - I think it's 5, anyway, it's the one with the separate tag - on my D4 and the same on an X3. Both have worked perfectly for over three years now, If the car is moved without the tag being present i.e. if your keys are stolen in a break in in order to steal the car, it automatically alerts Trackstar. The car doesn't get far before you receive a call (approx. 5 minutes) which we've proved by forgetting to take the tag. I won't say whether it was me or my wife in case she ever reads this. (Which smiley should I use for "smug look".)
