E30 Clocks

Post by Yad3100 » Tue Feb 23, 2021 12:59 am

How can I tell if this is a genuine? Or just a sticker some previous owner has added.

Tricky to tell really, as the originals were just stickers.

But here's a couple of pics from genuine cars, not the clearest but the 4 of 5 which have the ALPINA script have it on both the speedo & rev counter and they are mounted lower on the dials ... the other has nothing.

Thanks, trawled the net but pics not clear.

The car started life as a m42 and it seems likely that the tacho has been changed to 6 cylinder one. The type face looks right, but it seems a bit smaller and as you say not in the right position. I never considered it to be genuine as there can’t be many about.

I absolutely love the C2 with the recaros in the cloth with the alpina stripe!

It’s a bit of an odd one with E30 clocks, afaik originals are just standard clocks with a couple of stickers added. Some had red/orange needles but not sure that was original.

That C2 has been fully restored by BMR, it should be nigh on perfect, hopefully might get to see it one day.

as Bob says, some had orange needles some didn't, if the tacho or speedo head failed they'd replace it and dependent on when and who did it, they may have not added the Alpina sticker to the new one.

But if the car started as an M42 then chances are the clocks you have are not original.

Would say this version from a well preserved B6 offers an example. Must have had a few variations over the years.
