2008 B7 Sideview Mirror Issues

Post by 2008b7 » Fri Oct 15, 2021 11:32 pm

I just got a 2008 B7 and the driver's sideview mirror will go up like it should, but when I press the button for it to return to the normal driving state, the mirror keeps on going until it's pointing to the ground. Has anybody dealt with this? Any ideas on how to fix this?

I think you will find that this is caused simply by wear and tear. There is a cog type mechanism inside and after many times of use they simply wear out and the mirror does not return to the correct position. How to fix it, for what I can see the interior door panel has to be removed to get to the mechanism. If its worn I am not sure if that individual part can be purchased? If not and its the whole mirror and motor and having it painted to match that could be expensive.

I have had a similar situation, whereby the mirrors will fold and one will not return to the correct position, but this is sporadic. Fortunately I can park my car in my garage without needing to fold the mirrors so its not a major issue for me. I dont use the car as an everyday driver so supermarket car parks and tight parking spaces are also not an issue.

Sorry I cannot be of more help.

You can buy a mirror repair kit which includes all the little gears which tend to wear over time. Quite easy to strip and replace the bits.. I haven’t seen anywhere that sells the micro switch but if yours are attempting to move then it’s unlikely to be the micro switch. Before buying a kit it’s worth stripping the covers of and exposing the micro switch and check that it is secure and the little lever isn’t bent.
