Post by Joff Gas » Sat Mar 02, 2024 4:49 pm

Hi Chaps ,

Looking to buy my first Alpina and would appreciate some feedback .

I don’t have a great deal of Alpina knowledge ,come from Porsche / M cars .

What are your thoughts on this ? Spec ? Price etc ?

Is this a good buy

Welcome to the forum! I have owned a 2014 D5 Touring for 3 years. It is now on 163,000 miles and has had no major issues (one broken front spring and an EGR cooler). It is one of the best cars I have owned. I can’t think of another car than can offer the performance, space, comfort and economy. In 2014 it offered close to M5 performance with almost 50mpg achievable on a motorway cruise.

The spec of the car you linked looks OK. The ivory interior is hard wearing. Mine is still in great condition. Sunroof is desirable. It’s missing head up display and the HK sound system.

I can’t comment on the price. It’s a rare car with low mileage. There’s a D5 on Autotrader with 143,000 miles at £10K less. Based on my experience I wouldn’t discount a high mileage car.

Looks like a nice car.

My F11 is closing in on 150k and still a fun economical drive.

I would check who was servicing the car and see if the EGR recall has been done. Other than that check if you can continue a BMW warranty.

I really like this, nice colour combo, LCI, lovely interior and one owner, which is always attractive.

Looks like stickers has been put over the lettering on the front splitter, which aren't quite the right size and have been fitted badly. Looks wonky.

Pirelli P Zero tyres, although premium and ALP marked are incorrect for an F10 D5. That said, the originally prescribed Michelins are now obsolete but owners tend to stick to Michelin- generally Pilot Sport 4S. You could fit Michelins when the time comes.

If you go for a look in person- check the very top front corner of every door for corrosion- a known F10/11 issue. May be resolved under the BMW 12 year anti corrosion warranty providing certain conditions are met (no previous paintwork on the affected panels being one)

And of course the EGR recall as Frosty mentions.

Pricewise its probably a few K too heavy- if i was looking to buy i'd be wanting it nearer £20k, depending on how good the warranty is.

Brilliant cars, great long distance mile munchers, economical, and very quick for a two ton barge...
