Alpina B5 Biturbo - what to look (out) for?

Post by Xjan » Wed Sep 22, 2021 10:34 pm

Hello! I daily a Audi SQ7 + own a number of BMWs already (2 Alpinas, E60 M5, M3x3 etc)

I am considering a Alpina B5 Biturbo for my second "family car". Reviews look great compared to 550i and M5, but are there any cons that you know of? Durability wise etc? What options are an absolute must-have? I am somewhat torn between the Audi RS6, Alpina B5 biturbo and the M5... all from ca. 2018 year. I am thinking the Alpina should hold its value best out of these three, as has low production numbers etc.

"own a number of BMWs already (2 Alpinas, E60 M5, M3x3 etc)"

Own currently or have owned?

"I am somewhat torn between the Audi RS6, Alpina B5 biturbo and the M5"

Questions -
Do you need an estate? If so that rules out the M5

Have you driven the other two?

Would aim to test drive both as first port of call, you'll know straight away which you prefer.

That should answer the "which options?" question too - or visit the Configurator on Alpina's site to get an idea - your "must-haves" will differ from someone else's.

I currently own them yes, a bit of a collection and sickness :). There aren’t any B5s for sale here so cannot test drive one. I am thinking the Alpina should be a touring as it is more practical, but I do not need it to be. I am pretty sure it will satisfy my needs and would like to know if there are any known “illnesses” to look out for + what are the more popular options. One owner told me it definitely needs the big brakes and LSD for instance.

One of those "good problems"! Any shareable pictures of any/all of them?

Fair enough re the test drive, figured you could try one of the latest ones and see what options are available on those a couple of years old. Not sure when the heads up display came in but I really liked that on the B3 I tried in July.

Good luck with the hunt, keep us posted!

All jokes and swooning over car collections aside  , and very selfishly as I am looking at these too, does anyone have any advice for the OP?

Bought mine, although could not find much info I was suggested to get one with big brakes and lsd installed. LSD I am missing on mine, but so far I am happy. My car was also tuned to 750hp and 950nm before coming home to me. It is damn quick!
