Best Alpina for up to 10k on a market right now

Post by quitquitquit » Tue Sep 21, 2021 8:44 am

Hello,
I am looking to sell/swap my e90 335D and get an Alpina. Most likely e9X D3 of some sort, but I would consider even e39.
Do you know about any examples that you would recommend ? Some examples are on a market for months, so I dont know if there is some story about them or they are just priced too high. Oh, and ideally estate or coupe, as I d like to have finally folding seats.
Thank you for your help and suggestions!

This purely for the spec and colour, known by us on here and seen in the flesh

It’s definitely not uncommon for ALPINAs of all flavours to take 6mths plus to sell, although it often isn’t helped by ambitious pricing.

There are myriad cars around for £10k or less, so rather than listing them all, maybe if you share any that have caught your eye and we’ll give any feedback appropriate.

Hap’s suggestion is great and this seems reasonably priced: D3 BITURBO [E90 LCI] #477 * Space Grey/* Anthracite Impulse Cloth/Leather; 2012_12; £10.4k; 77k; Private

D3KEU is #064: I first saw it for sale in Oct-20 for £8.2k. It slow dropped to £7.2k by Jul-21, then it suddenly jumped to the £10k you see today. Spec-wise it's a standard D3 BT Coupe with Dynamics, half leather without Seat Badges, Manual AC, Rear PDC and Xenons.

FJ58HCY is #074: I first saw it back in Jun-18 when it appeared with a dealer in Bournemouth who offered it until Feb-19,dropping price from £11k to £8k. It appeared to sell but by Jul-19 it was at Manheim Northampton where the current dealer group seems to've picked it up and advertised it from Aug-19. There seems to be at least 4 trading accounts this dealer uses on Autotrader/eBay (Harlestone Cars, Autosport Harlestone, Kelmarsh Classic Cars & Duston Sports Cars) but the images have been the same across these different accounts. Again spec is standard D3 BT Coupe (Dynamics, half leather without Seat Badges, Manual AC, Rear PDC and Xenons)

NH58XPE is #133: first appeared in May-21 with this dealer and has not seen any movement on price to date. Spec-wise this is a little better than usual with Electric Memory seats and Autolights and Rain Sensing Wipes in addition to the standard Classics, half leather without Seat Badges, Manual AC, Rear PDC and Xenons

Thank you for all your help and and especially @CaesarBob for very informative response.

Am I right that seat badges are only present if seats are somehow different from standard BMW ones? For example with different leather or with stiching?

The D3 BiTurbo's Cloth/Leather is unique to ALPINA rather than being a standard BMW trim option and is different cloth depending on bodystyle: saloon/touring got 'Impuls' and coupes got 'Pearlpoint'. Up to 2011 the Roundels were not an option.

The cars with full leather have the standard BMW Dakota leather and up to c2011 it came by default with the Roundel badges.

Post 2011 the Roundels became a no-cost option across the cloth/leather and Dakota leather.

In true ALPINA fashion, it turns out that Coupe #008 has just come back up for sale and now there is a pic of the seats, which are cloth/leather with roundels. :?

That is against the pricelist for Nov-09 which doesn't give them as an option. So it must've been different for the early cars, and that means there is at least 3 versions of 'standard' for the E9x D3 BT's. Nice and simple!

I know it’s a saloon, but Vaughan’s D3 is looking very good value at £8k now.
