F30/31 D3 standard spec

Post by jamesr » Mon Jun 14, 2021 11:54 am

As F31 D3's are a little thin on the ground at the moment, i've decided i may need to put my dream of owning an Alpina touring on hold and expand my search to include the F30 saloon as well.

I've been trying to find details of the standard spec that came with the F30/31 and also the available optional extras. For the newest models there's obviously the Alpina configurator, which understandably no longer exists for the F30/31. Does anyone know where i might be able to find this info and also the base price of both models?

I have pdf copies of the sales brochure and pricelists inc Options for the F3x LCI D3 BiTurbo. There wasn't any significant changes to standard spec as far as I know between pre & post LCI.

If you want a copy, drop me a PM with an email address and I forward them over.

I've been looking at the service history of several different cars, as it's displayed in iDrive, and am trying to get a better understanding of what i'm looking at

Am i right in thinking that these mean the following:

Green 'OK' - maintenance has been carried out on time
Amber 'OK' - maintenance has been carried out with a delay - service occurred either after 20k miles or 12 months later than the previous service
Amber '!' - Maintenance has not been carried out - I'm not sure what this actually means. I'm guessing either 'The service was missed' OR 'a fault/issue was found during the service that was not rectified during the service'?

From what i've read a full service is supposed to be carried out every 20k miles or 12 months, which ever comes first. But some of the distances/intervals i've seen between each full service are shorter than this. So is a shorter service interval actually down to the discretion of the owner and the full service is still carried out and logged in iDrive?

I've also noticed some services that are over for both time and distance, but are still displayed with a green 'OK' - for example the distance/time between the first and second service on one car i've seen was over 21k miles and 18 months, but the 'OK' was still green. But another service on the same car was after 13 months and 10k miles, but has an amber 'OK'?

BMW moved to time/condition based servicing some time ago. My understanding is that on average service intervals for oil and other filters is between approx. 16 - 21k miles or 2 years, whichever occurs soonest. They aren’t 12 month intervals. The car will indicate what is required at that specific interval. On my F31 the last service was approx 16k miles between oil changes. I do carry out an interim oil change as I am not a fan of long service intervals, I don’t record these on the I drive as it throws the intervals out, I just keep the dealer invoices as proof.

If you click into each service you will see what service items were completed. Not sure why an amber service item would be recorded on 13k miles and 10 months after the last service item, unless it was not an oil service and perhaps a brake fluid change or vehicle check which was performed late?

Best of luck with your search.

Very interesting, thanks. I wasn't aware that it was actually 2 years.

Hopefully seeing a few cars in person and clicking through the history will help me get a better idea of what i'm looking at, cheers

An F31 D3 has just popped up on autotrader for just under £21k in case you haven’t seen it.

Cheers.

Well done! Thought it was competitively priced considering some other recent examples which have sold.

Would that be the blue one with black leather and red piping/stitching?

Looks like a decent spec, love the colour and LSD to boot! Nice one :D
