Collection from Factory

Post by churchie386 » Tue Oct 13, 2020 7:58 pm

Is factory collection something one needs to specify at the time of ordering with Sytner?

I don’t know the answer, but I know this is something I dream of doing! The thought of ordering a new Alpina or Porsche, then flying out to collect from the factory is amazing. Enjoy!

I know BMW have stopped collections for Cars going to the UK, I tried last year :(, I believe the yanks can still collect.

I am sure Alpina stopped collections around about the time they stopped factory visits.
You could always contact Axel Rimpler Alpina Production Manager, you might be lucky :D

I was told today by Sytner that collection is not an option. However, if I know I'm going to be near Buchloe at any point ... in my Alpina ... they'll let the factory know ahead, and a welcome and some small tour may be on the cards. Seems fair enough.

That’s disappointing - did they give any reason why they have stopped? At least you might get to visit the factory and see your build in progress?

The dream will have to be limited to collecting a brand new Porsche then - if only!

I thought they stopped factory tours a few years ago due to the sensitive nature of the development work they do there.
Also with Covid I would be amazed if they would entertain a tour due to H&S implications.

It really is a pity they don't facilitate collection. I've just been reading the article in this week's Autocar on collecting a B3 Touring from Buchloe and driving back to the UK, that's something I would definitely want to do if I ever purchased a brand new Alpina. If they can do it for the journos, surely they should do it for paying customers?

Other marques offer a factory collection - so I guess it all depends on the will of the manufacturer and appropriate precautions being in place.

Alpina have a very small workforce and I doubt they have the manpower to look after clients who wish to collect cars.
Would not be cost effective.
Larger producers would probably have a dedicated department just for collections.

Alpina used to collect you from Munich Airport, put you up in the Stadt Hotel in Buchloe and give you a tour of their Wine cellar :dance those days are long gone.
