I'd take a look at the cooling system as a whole and use BMW parts where you can.
the PDC, it probably won't be a fuse though, if the sensors don't work the its more than likely the control unit over anything else. Unless its one long beep, then its a sensor.

Well done for taking the plunge. As Rav, Charles & AG have shown, there's plenty of help here. Sounds like you took a similar approach to me - condition and what's the owner like! Mine was bought from a Train Driver from Bearsden, Glasgow... Limited paperwork but evidence of care.
Regarding oil, some go for 0W30 Castrol Edge but frankly it is personal taste. I use a petronas 5w30 that meets BMW LL-04 and change it on Calendar (BMW/Alpina say every 2 years for low mileage).
