It is lovely that one and would like a touring.
The high miles though, ok if maintained well? Warrant goes up for the higher mileage, I think the price points tend to be 60k and 100k.
2 turbos to be ready for on these beasts ££££

The thought of dropping £30k on a modern diesel is scaring a lot of potential buyers away from them.
With London taking the lead and many other cities following suit with a parking hike for derv vehicles and the potential of not being allowed into LEZ in them too is making more and more people jump back into petrol cars.
The long term residuals of a D4 are pretty dismal compared to a B4
I know if I had £30k to drop it wouldn't be on the devils fuel

As long as you are realistic about your requirements, I do still believe there is a place for Derv-burners. The problem is currently, buyers for Diesel Alpinas at more than £8-10k are facing potentially significant depreciation over the next few years. If you are likely to cover in excess of 20k miles a year and or will keep the car for 3-5yrs then they could makes sense, but you will still take a hefty chunk in depreciation.

I've only seen 3 B4 BiTurbos for sale in the last year (ignore the ad links as they have expired):

The only B that will probably be up for sale soon is F32 B4 S BiTurbo #210 which is currently doing a stint as Press car with Autocar. That is going to be an interesting one to value as it's a strange one:
- It was the prototype built in 2016 to Singapore market spec,
- used as the showcar for B4 S launch at Geneva 2017,
- then converted to UK spec at the factory and offered for sale by Sytner in late 2018 at £55k,
- it was eventually registered in Apr'19 but by all accounts it's had an IVA and appears more like a kit car on the reg documents because it didn't have all the correct paperwork since it was built for Singapore market.
There are some collectors who would love this for the back-story and fact it was the prototype car but to others it will just be a bit of a mongrel.

At 15k per year I won’t gain enough from mpg to warrant a diesel. So the depreciation is worrying.
It really does feel we are approaching that watershed moment as far as transport goes.
We literally will not be able to use them..
Mad to think cars like this will one day sit worthless
The Bs are looking more worth keeping an eye out for now. I think #042 (that number again!) must be the one I saw recently.
Re the next possible for sale I’m not sure I have the minerals for one with such an ‘interesting’ history.
BMW had to look twice just to find a normal Alpina.
The 2 chassis numbers throw them of course.

Ps with the white D5 issues (thousands for a wiring issue for a relatively new car is concerning)
I now wonder about the grey D4 especially as it apparently took 4 working days just to organise the transport..been 7 working days now..anyway if it’s had issues they have had to address I am sure they will fess up

How are you finding ownership, silly question you did 147k in the previous one you’re clearly liking the D BT’s !
If I did anything like that mileage it’d be a no brainer!

Had a cheeky run out to the garage and #042 has arrived!
Had a look round it...it’s a beautiful thing..want!
Garage was shut but cheekily grabbed vin and don’t see a LSD in the list unfortunately. Will post it if allowed and of interest.
Tbh it didn’t look too loved, those lovely tail pipes are filthy and a look through the spokes of the 20s shows enough ground in muck to suggest the wheels haven’t been cleaned inside since new. To me a bit of a sign...No doubt that’s not an easy task so could understand.
The garage hasn’t called yet and from the dirt and flys it looks like it has been in use..no doubt enjoying it
Anyway will see how things go over the weekend and see if I can be tempted into a D!

How are you finding ownership,

Mileage has slowed down now to about 12k per year but I love the car. I've never driven a B4 (or B3) but I would expect their power delivery to be more "urgent". This is just so smooth but if you press on it's really quick. Most passengers have no idea it's a diesel.

I do tend to keep my cars a while (the old one was 8 years) and I've usually spent so much time in them, clocking up miles, that the overall feeling of the car is more important than depreciation. For example on the old car I reckon I saved about £10k in fuel over my ownership and ask if a circa 150k miles 8 year old B3 coupé would have sold for £10k more than I got for the diesel. I doubt it, but for me that's not the point. Drive both if you can and if the petrol stands out - buy it. If the diesel stacks up and because of the current anti-diesel lobby is a financial bargain, buy it.

Whatever you choose, enjoy it.
