Maserati Gransport content

Post by PhillV8S » Sat Apr 03, 2021 8:44 pm

I have just collected a new stablemate for the B6. I decided an ageing German deserved a suitable sidekick of similar bork potential so have got this crazy loud Italian to park next to the B6.

Early impressions are it’s loud, fast and very yellow! Definitely leaning more towards the sports car side of the spectrum whereas the B6 is comfortably a full GT.
The B6 is quicker but the Maser has more drama and involvement whilst driving.
As the Gransport has a robotised manual it will take a little getting used to but is certainly not as bad I was expecting and expect after a week will be flapping paddles quite happily.
The interior is very nice with lashings of leather and carbon fibre so a pleasant place to sit. Not usually a fan of black interiors but the piping really helps and contrasts well with the exterior. The back seats are actually usable in this car and people with legs can even fit!
This car has Larini hi flow sports cats and h-pipe which certainly make it sound “fruity”.
Looking forward to waking the neighbours up in the coming mornings.

Wowsers, that's certainly not subtle. Looks like it would be a fun drive but not sure I could actually own a bright yellow car

It was the colour that sold it to me. It’s not a car for the shy and retiring sort that’s for sure. It suits the cars personality perfectly and also as there are only 3 in the uk that are yellow I’m not likely to see another very often. The sound is the standout feature though, a Ferrari made engine with a free flowing exhaust makes it really sing when pressing on.
The last owner had it for 8 years and was a big enthusiast which was also reassuring. A 2 hour drive home including a big jam due to a motorway being closed didn’t ruffle its feathers so that’s the first litmus test passed.

Very nice! I have longed after these for a while especially with the boomerang rear lights - bliss. But i understand that the US market didnt permit these, so they had the more 'normal' looking rear light clusters.

I would be spoilt for choice with both of those in my stable. I have a Boxster S and it has done 800 miles a year since the B3 arrived. The B3 is 4 door i can take the kids, i can goto Ikea etc.....

I hope you enjoy. Please keep us posted with updates.

The 3200 had the boomerangs but also had a completely different V8 twin turbo from the N/A V8 which was fitted in the replacement 4200. 3200 could be manual or auto. The 4200 manual or automated manual (cambiocorsa). The Gransport as seen here was the sportier slightly more potent variant at the top of the Coupe range launched after the 4200 and sold alongside it and cambiocorsa only with Sport mode for faster gearchanges and fruitier exhaust and sill extensions etc. Some prefer 4200 to GS but most would have the GS given the choice (but they cost more). Importantly though they really are a masterpiece of packaging being proper 4-seaters. Seated adults in the rear of my GS with never any complaints.

Just got back from a trip upto North Yorkshire to visit a friend. We had fun blasting around the moors until a snapped rear spring stopped play (the Aston not mine). The best MPG I have got is 24MPG on the drive home so not too bad but half that if being enthusiastic on B roads!
Also managed a trip to C&M which always attracts some rarities. A Spyker and LM002 we’re my favourite spots.
I have never had a car which attracts so much positive attention. Thumbs up from cars on motorways, comments at petrol stations etc. Seems people are happy to see it around which is nice.
The gearbox is second nature now and I actually like it. It makes the car more involving to drive fits the weekend toy part perfectly.

A local guy who took pics of my B6 took some of the Maserati. His camera beats my potato phone for pics…

Very cool Phil. Always had a soft spot for the gransports / certainly a bucket list car. That colour gives it a very special car look. Congrats.
