Car change
Hi
We now have a young puppy in the family, so I'm thinking of changing the D3 Biturbo saloon. Initial thought is to get an estate. I don't think I could get another Alpina past Mrs R, plus they're hard to find anyway....have mildly been thinking of a second hand Audi S4 Avant....
In the meantime I got my latest company all-diesel car list (I am currently "opting out"). There are some nice estates (A4, Octavia VRS, Superb, Passat, Accord etc), but these caught my eye, any thoughts?
BMW X3 xdrive 2.0 SE
Evoque ed4 Pure Tech
Volvo XC60 D4 se nav or r design nav
Cheers

Hi Mike, I can't comment on the 2.0d, but certainly the auto gear box is a very nice option. RFT are very good for my misses, as it's her that usually drives the car anyway. Although I've been the one who's had 4 punctures in just over 2 years ownership, all insured BTW.
18k mile service intervals on the earlier cars. I change the oil/filter at half that. I believe the new LCD cars are now 10k intervals
Rear brake pads were changed at 30k on mine, with some owners reporting lower than this. Due to active stabilisation on high speed turns, and braking with them to limit nose dive.
Depends what you want the car for/to do. A lot of extras can add to the joy of owning one, but can be expensive if it's fully loaded with toys
My neighbour has an Evoque, and says that the boot space is very limiting.
Can't help with anything Volvo sorry.
HTH, Onzie

Well the latest is that the company car policy is about to change so that they will only provide cars to people who do above a certain business mileage. I am well under the threshold, so a private car change is likely the way ahead.
I think I'm leaning towards an "interesting" estate (and relatively young - needs to be fairly reliable) - maybe an S4 Avant - not sure I want to risk an older RS4... Also I'm not sure I have the mental fortitude come car tax time to shell out £500!
Any thoughts? There are some D3s out there but swmbo won't let me have another black Alpina!

Will the tax be lower on those as they're older? IIRC beyond a certain age there's a ceiling on the tax?rc944 wrote:My currrent front runner to the outgoing e39 sport touring is a c55 amg estate.. good luck finding one though

!!!
Yes - partly it's "not another Alpina" (it would "only" be my third in a row...) but going on current D3 BT Tourings available it would be the 7th black car as well in her eyes (one was dark bronze but she said "it's virtually black") - major hurdle! Maybe a wrapped Alpina?!
