Sorry guys, I know that this is a bmw forum, but always liked these better
I think we're allowed on this Chit Chat forum

Your user name very much gives away that you are a Capri man. I agree though, fabulous car - that was a great era for touring cars.
WAS a Capri man, had lots but will never replace VYJ, in hind sight I question trading it for a cheap e30 mtec 1 to strip into a track car. I must have been or am mad.

The Tiff film is ace, can’t believe how many they produced. Ford cheated in homologation and built normal cars between. The vins range showed 1000, but less than 200 were built. But unlike the cal there wasn’t that many changes.

Love the E9 shape, absolutely stunning. A friend had a CSi many many years ago, ORS 30M.
Another friend had 2 Mk1 3 litre Capris, a 3000E and a GT XLR back in the day!

Pre facelift 3000 gtxlr, now that a rare Capri these days. I have seen a Broadspeed bullet that’s recently appeared on the bay, even rarer than a RS3100.

VYJ a Dundee registration. I am sure I remember seeing this car and red/orange one in Dundee in the mid 70''s. Lovely looking car.

You could be right.

The car was originally Sebring red and then get reshelled in the mid 80s by John Muir at MV turbos in Dunfermline. I first saw the car the car was a bare shell in Modena (late 80s) when John sold it, I couldn’t afford it.

A guy in Glenrothes bought it and stuck it in a lock up. I bought it in 2003 from an advert in classic car, it had never changed and was still as I had last seen it for the photo shoot for fast car in 90 (still have a copy).

The Capri looks superb. I think anyone who has sold a classic Ford like that regrets it now.

Reminds me of my formative, years - my Dad was a big Ford fan. These were my Mom and Dad’s cars when I was little....

Is that a RS1800? That’s the biggest icon in RS circles, well for the old guys.

I guessing that the fiesta is a 1300s from the stripe. XR2 has a bigger following but the s and super sport are now rarer, as everyone saved the X-RAY and RS models.

It is an RS1800 yeah - he had it for about 10 years. Made the most wonderful noise running on twin 40s. And Mom's Fiesta was a Supersport. They looked so good parked together.

The RS is still around - it's now on the plate BDA 1T and is fairly well known. As you say though, not many Fiestas would have been saved. We did see it many years later at a petrol station but it was seriously rusty so probably didn't last much longer.

There is no better sound than multiple carbs coming into song. The only thing I’ve experienced that’s close is a e46 m3 with csl intakes. The 3100 sounded raw after I had finished with it! Triple 42 DCNF!

Sorry I’ve taken over this E9 thread talking old fords but my enthusiasm extends beyond one manufacturer

Yep, that one

Desired, but in those days I was also running a F**d C***i, 1600, stage 2 head, cam, 40DCOE, four branch manifold, in a stock looking 1600 XL complete with wheel trims!!!!

Cheers

It's true. I think the closest I've heard was the F20C in my old S2000 with a HKS intake on. Made as close to a big carb sound on a modern injection engine, it was amazing.

No apology required, I think we all started our journey of enthusiasm from various marques. Mines started with a Ford Popular 100E when I was 17 and within a few weeks had the engine out and stripped, much to my father's puzzlement, following car magazine articles to try and get more power out of it. My father liked Fords and so did I and had quite a few. I think my journey and possibly others crosses many marques that led us to Alpina but still appreciate all the other wonderful and evocative cars of our youths.
