BMW 850s For Sale

Post by ScooBeeFive » Sat Nov 21, 2020 4:35 pm

I'm a big fan of the E31 8 Series and often have a browse through what's for sale. It's been interesting to track the rise in price of the 850CSi - you could get them for very reasonable money a few years back as demonstrated by this one that sold through Silverstone Auctions:

For me, that was an absolute bargain. Fast forward a few years and we now have one up for £130K!

Admittedly it's very low mileage and great condition, but even so - is it worth anywhere near this? This one on Autotrader seems much better value:

Finally, there is an interesting one coming soon on Collecting Cars - V12, Manual and with Alpina wheels - what's not to like? It will be interesting to see what it goes for.

I'm no closer to buying one now than I ever have been, but it's definitely a car I'd like to own one day......

Like you a big fan. Very nearly brought 1 or 2. Test drove one in 2014 and nearly brought it but a company restructuring changed all that. Still look at all the new adverts and think, what if. Still some reasonable priced ones around but deep pockets for maintenance puts me off buying one anytime soon.

Or an E9!

E9s are great too, although my 'All Time Fave' car when I was a school kid was the E24 635CSi. You can tell I am a child of the 80s. I loved the shark nose. I mentioned in my first post on the forum, I had a picture of Frank Sytner in an Alpina liveried E24 in my room growing up - I was destined to end up with an Alpina at some point!

I was fortunate enough to drive BMW UK's heritage M635Csi a few years back - a real meet your heroes moment. It absolutely didn't disappoint, still feeling a quick car with 286bhp and a great analogue feel.

I always thought if I bought a classic it would be an E24, but I've owned a couple of BMW Straight 6s now - the lure of a V12 is very strong.
