2014-16 Audi S3 fastback anyone got one or had one **UPDATED**

Post by hap » Tue Nov 17, 2020 8:27 am

Hi I’m looking at one for the family wagon
I haven’t driven one yet but like it’s quite rare 4 wheel drive for safety and quite discreet
Any views or am I asking for trouble my main issue is the nickable factor be my missus who drives it

Cheers

Hey hap - I’ve not driven an S3 specifically but had a 64-plate A3 Sportback 1.4tfsi for just about 6wks from new that I rejected and got Audi to take back. It was a nice car if a little firm with the Sport suspension but there was a steering fault that only became evident after a couple of hours on the motorway. Not ideal when I was commuting twice a week between Manchester and Bristol.

It was a company car hap, I’d decided to to go for a smaller car and go over the top with options rather than running a more basic A4. Had the widescreen media, BOSE, adaptive cruise, full heated leather, sunroof, metallic paint. It was a nice place to be, but the harder sport suspension wasn’t the best choice given it was for tramping up the motorways mainly. Also the fuel consumption reality was way below published, about 30-40% less from memory but it did only have 5k on it when it went back.

I’ve had quite a long Audi ownership, my wife has had 5 TTs over the past 15 yrs, a new one each 3, not an S3 but the same car different shape, originally it was the 225 manual followed by varying 3.2 dsg and more recently a couple of TTSs 310hp stronic. Maintenance wise non have ever broken down or failed in anyway, I recall a new headlamp unit many years ago and I’m sure that’s it, Audi servicing is the same pricing as BMW. The current models have certainly moved on in handling since the original, they have injected more feeling and sharper handling, it was never bad but now it is much sharper. The performance is as you’d expect 60 comes up in just 5 seconds and launching to that is foolproof every time, never any hesitation from any wheels losing grip as they are all having a go at it. The interior is easily up to BMW standards if not better. If you need anymore info or thoughts just ask. Other Audis include 3.0 Tdi allroad that I traded my E46 B3s Touring for many years ago, that car is currently for sale again as many have seen, then 2 Q7s.

Hope that helps

Thanks mark good to hear , I am not too fussed about the 300 bhp it’s the 4 wheel drive and comfort for visits and U.K. hols it be partners daily and mine on the weekend 😉
Says it’s a 36e insurance group which sounds expensive due to nature of car. How’s that compare to TT any of your had tracker. I would consider the cruck lock or those full steering wheel locks 🔐

Ps need rob buyback your B3s it’s a sign it’s still coming up for sale

Hi Hap, the TTS is group 49 whatever that means I’ve had to look the at up, we pay £550 per year but it impossible to compare insurance. No tracker on this TT as it was making little difference to the premiums in the past. There is a market for stealing the S3s as a 4wd 300hp hatchback it makes a great car for using in crime as can be seen regularly on Police Interceptors and the like. On the 4wd front it was always humorous to my wife that I couldn’t get a BMW off the drive in the snow where she would drive all over the country without a thought.

Cheers

So few weeks back I missed out on one I really wanted B&o folding mirrors but had an upgraded clutch which rang alarm bell
So fast Fwd left a refund deposit at Norwich Audi so everything agreed on the phone never driven one but collared a random owner to check his bootspace smaller than pics show due to Quattro but spare wheel can come out
So 06:45 down the A15 A17 A47 passed raf bases foggy horrible few cars in ditches
Arrived just after 10 car ready in show room so had a good shifty over it tbf it was prepared well odd scratches but no excessive swirls, interior was like new. Deal done and the trusted golf traded in (it will be at auction somewhere well looked after fvwsh in my 5 years ownership

So didn’t even test drive it keys given and turned and burned at 12 luckily sun peeped through. Initial feelings solid well built , very comfortable not harse the response is another level even on 6 th gear so pleased I got a manual very good notchy shift rained and fog n misty on A roads various road types roundabout well planted
Near home opened it up a bit and yes big smile on my face
Home just gone 16:00 car filthy and I am whacked , managed nearly 39 mpg which is pretty good steady golf I managed almost 64 mpg

A happy chap for the family wagon in fact it’s really too nice but lovely place to be and a lot of admiring glances

Thanks to Shaun Larkin who dealt throughout honestly and always rang back and checked everything I asked sorted me some foc private plates and provided a wad of paperwork which all those who know me is a must, stickler for papers receipts etc. I did buy this car against the grain how I normally would kinda bought blind without ever driven an S3. It’s serviced on he button Haldex done 2019, brake fluid and thermostat done came with x4 new boots also so hopefully a good while before anything needs doing has 12 month warranty as well

Hi hap, they come through in a couple of days lately - you’ll be able to get your plate on in no time. Much different to years back when you had to queue for hours at a DVLA office then wait 6 weeks for it to go through!
