SPECS Cameras

Post by Hodge » Wed Jan 02, 2013 4:48 pm

Nottinghamshire is the hub of the Specs Averaging Camera population, I have no gripe with these but have recently noticed that new ones are now Rear Facing, ie reading the rear number plate. Anyone know of the technical reason for this apart from MotorCycle coverage

Cheers

Have to admit they seemed to have been on a spending spree - i've notice several new cameras over the christmas break.

Not noticed rear facing ones - but did notice some different looking ones (which might be the ones you mean) - near Aspley ?

Try Lowdham to the A614, and the A614 to Rufford, new rear facing. Googling it seems to suggest its just to keep the Motorcycle fatalities down, so I'm assuming technology has moved forward or they would have been rear facing to start with.

These cameras on the A614 backwards facing detectors were erected in Nov/Dec and working, a visit to the local over new year and seems plenty have already paid the £60 fines.

Or, more cynically, they didn't like the fact that motorcyclists weren't contributing to their revenue stream Swear

It is indeed for the motorcycling folk to be 'part of it' (of which I'm one....)....

The ones in Aspley you speak of - if the new ones outside the school, then the two yellow ones are standard SPECS cams, but the smaller black ones are to do with the bus lane outside the school, which is why it's located at the end of the bus lane itself.....

If I had a pound for everyone who's ever said to me that speed cameras are put up/run by police wh make money from them, I'd be driving a D5 BT by now?!

I never said that the Police made money from them - as I understand it, the money goes to the treasury who then disburse it ?via the DoT?, but all the time they rake in more than they cost to run they will be seen as a source of revenue.

No problem, Mark, I was being a bit flippant with my comment and I just wanted to make sure it wasn't being taken the wrong way

Whereabouts are these?

I'm about to enter a stint of driving from Lowdham/Burton Joyce island to Woodborough (Timmermans ).

Just correcting myself. They start a the beginning of the Epperstone Bypass, just after the Traffic Lights at Lowdham. But I'm sure you'll see them

Thanks.
It'll be dark the first time I drive up there, and the 50 limit is easily exceeded on the DC...
