With the recent winter weather it seems as good a time as any to mention that these wheels and tyres are still available, and as they are simply taking up space in the garage I am open to any sensible offer.

Double darn - would have been pleased to see the car go to a UK buyer who could have kept the B3 *** plate that was on it...! I didn't advertise in the UK because generally people are put off by the LHD or expect a bargain price because of it. This car was too good for that! Put it down to bad luck ...

A fair question. As a reader of this forum you may understand more easily than most how it can have become become perfectly rational to have 5 cars in the household, to wit... Land Rover Discovery - we live in deep countryside down little lanes, have 3 children and a dog, the ultimate multi-purpose ...

BMW alloys and winter tyres (x4)

Following the sale of my E46 B3 3.3 I have a set of surplus to requirements BMW alloys and winter tyres. The wheels are 17 inch and the tyres are Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme 205/50 R17. I had the wheels refurbed the winter before last and the tyres have been used for 3 short winter spells - no more th...

B3 3.3 saloon no.589 has gone home

Some of you will be familiar with the "will he, won't he?" indecision about selling my cherished B3 3.3 - a LHD car originally supplied in Benelux and which I have owned and enjoyed since new over 87,000 faultless miles and 14 years. Well, as we speak she is headed back across the Channel to a new l...

Octane #160 - Alpina B2S

Hopefully people will spot the nice article in the October edition of Octane on the 1971 BMW Alpina 3.0 CSL B2S. It's rather lost amidst Mercedes Gullwing, Pegaso and Le Mans Bentleys but worth looking for.

That asking price is £14k in today's money...

Is that right about having a standard BMW engine? The Alpina Archive suggests the technical spec was the same as the B6 2.8/2 (240 BHP).

Well done me for failing to spot that...! A senior moment. The pictures rather flatter the car's current condition - it has some nasty after market door mirrors and other trim embellishments outside and in. It is also sitting on tyres which are too narrow (17 x 205's all round). I don't know if the ...

B6 2.8 Touring (E36)

Imagine my surprise to see an Alpina B6 2.8 Touring sitting in my neighbour's drive this morning here in deepest (eastest) Kent. Turns out it has been lent by its owner to the builder who is working on the house. Car is #116 (of 136 I believe). According to the Alpina Archive it was a Japan-only lim...

My B3 3.3 has averaged 28.5 mpg since new (nearly 13 years and 85k miles of mixed driving, so a pretty good long-term test). My best was 33.7 mpg, but the only bit of the drive I enjoyed was setting a personal best for consumption!.

Bingo - buy that man a drink, and add this to the list of 101 uses for a bent coathanger! Thanks so much for the photo, which brought it all to life. Bit of grease and the release is working again, but it's just a bit tired and knackered - sound familiar...?

E46 B3 3.3 bonnet not releasing

Went to check my under bonnet fluids today but could not get the bonnet to open. The interior release lever feels and pulls normally and the bonnet pops open the first part and the lever appears in the grill. But that's as far as it goes. Lifting the lever in the grill just hits a stop and the bonne...

Mine was done recently, part took 6 weeks to order in, but job was over in 90 mins while I waited and the car came back with a lovely valet clean as well. It was my first visit to a franchised BMW dealer for many years, and it was all surprisingly painless. Even chatted to a nice sales chappy about ...
