BMW Car Club Monthly Mallory Meet Wed 5th July

Post by D4 » Tue Jul 04, 2006 9:24 am

just a reminder for anyone in the area this wednesday...

details here: http://tinyurl.com/z96go

7.30pm the Coach House Inn at the entrance to Mallory Park track in Leicestershire

So long as the weather is good (though with all this heat it'll probably be thunderstorms!!!) we should have a decent turnout - the last couple of months have seen over 15 cars with 6 or 7 ALPINA's at each month's meet.

hope to see you there...

it is getting to be more of an ALPINA meet than a straight BMW one... (no complaints from my side) However it does get me to think that perhaps we should have a monthly meet (if just so we can get the cars on a more regular basis)

but then that does pose the question as to whether it should be at Mallory or not...
afterall the pub's gone down hill greatly (not that it was ever that good) and there's no food at least not without booking it and making a real commitment in advance.

I quite like the idea of the Anchor at Hathern (though not sure how the location suits everyone) it's just off the M1 from either Jcn 23 or Jcn 24 and I know there's food there if you want it or not additionally I'm pretty sure the landlord seemed to be very up for it after our last meet there....

Thoughts/suggestions????

I agree with what your saying about the pub at Mallory going downhill thats why we changed the venue previously which was good but parking was a problem so we changed back to Mallory.

The Anchor sounds OK as the venue and food is good however I do think that starting up another meet along side Mallory wil not work. Having two meets in the same month in such close proximity of each other will lead to either one having a poor turnout. (More likely Mallory). It seems a shame to drop the Mallory meet after all the hard work that has gone into trying to make it a good meet which over tha last couple of months it has been regardless of whether its Alpina or non alpina. Why don't we combine the Mallory meet with an Alpina meet once a month at the Anchor keeping the same 1st Wednesday of each month.

I also think that it will still be good to have the Alpina meets on a Sunday certain times of the year i.e Warwick meet etc.

What do you think!!!!

i've no problem with keeping the ALPINA meet combined with the BMW one.. and having it on the same date (ie: 1st Wednesday of each month) my only concern now would be to make sure the venue change is put on the car club site just incase we get any non regular spontaneous turnups..

like I say the only main reason from my view for a venue change is the lack of interest from the pub (especially with it not even being open on the last 2 months till later in the evening) at least last year they seemed to want us there and yet this year not (perhaps because of the winter switch to Newbold - who knows... but it seems that they only make an effort for the bikers)

it's a shame because from a parking point of view its great with capacity for double any turnout we've had. The Swan was the opposite - good venue (though sometimes a little cramped) and yet rubbish parking...

hopefully the anchor will prove to be the best of bot world... I suppose we'll just have to take a straw poll in August as to what people think/want

it's a little bit further for some but only by about 20 mins i think depending on exactly whereabouts you're coming from.

I agree with Simon and Andy we should keep the meet the same just change the venue but i think we need to change the venue sooner rather than later.

Popped into the Anchor yesterday for lunch with D4 and spoke to Simon the landlord about having the meet there he is well up for it and has said he will cordon off half the carpark for us and also provide us with complimentary sandwiches we also have use of the function room if required also they serve a full menu until 9pm, which i have sampled many times :D

So the next meet will be 7.30 pm 2nd August

Here's some more details on the Anchor Inn.
including a menu though whilst some of it looks familiar i'm not sure if it's current (certainly I think the website is a little out of date - but there shoudl be enough information there to allow you to find it...)
