Maybe the airbag has been fired in a crash?

Advert says this
not got an alpina steering whell as in this year alpina did not do an airbag steering wheel,and they only made left hand drive clocks
Maybe it's true?

Maybe - I am not so interested that I am going to look at it - it just looks vastly more 850i than B12. Maybe I have a 'problem' with it because it is a Sytner 'conversion' and not an Alpina build. The Alpina plate location does not look 'right' and there are a few other things that make me expect it to be 850 pricing rather than B12. I think that the other big thing for me is the lack of that B12 louvred bonnet .... those are really to die for.

Here is the interior shot of an Alpina built B12 from 2000 (with an airbag steering wheel) ;

This is the interior of Frank Sytners personal B12 from 1987 without the airbag wheel;

I've been to see this car and, as the advertisement says, this is a Sytner conversion rather than a full ALPINA build.

As such, whilst it has ALPINA mechanicals, the interior isn't obviously ALPINA (for all the reasons stated).

Paintwork is good (apart from the nose where someone has carelessly nudged too far forward into something) but could appreciate some TLC - as could the interior.

From what I could gather, it hasn't been run much recently and may well benefit from a good service and proper running to "clear the tubes".

I was unsure when I went to see it but the provenance seems right and the dealer wasn't trying to pull the wool over my eyes. In fact, he was more interested in my car!

Price is, IMHO, a bit rich, but then there is always wiggle room in prices these days.

Charles - Thanks for the extra info.

Yes that is probably most of my concern and I would be asking for an awful lot of wiggle ...
I am still much more than happy with my B3S but as I stacked on 35k miles in the last year, I get to thinking about what might be next every so often. Or as well as :wink:

Clearing the tubes would not be a problem - filling that tank so often might be :cry:

Mr L you are a master of understatement! Knock the first digit off the price and I'd still be looking for it to go only one way. Anything over £6k would be a clear example of heart ruling head :shock:

While it's a lot of money, it has to be better value than this (which has already come down £5k!!)

I've already engaged in discussion on that one, perhaps on another forum. At least it appears to be a Buchloe car but I wouldn't break 5 figures for it. It's a 17 year old motor which hasn't had any restorative work done so it's potentially a huge money pit for anyone who's not an expert in E31s.

The photos are over 3 years old and it was for sale a while ago (with the same pictures).

Sorry for the heresy but a CSi can be had for £10k and is a much better investment.

Agreed, and that proves the point. A restored CSi for less than half of what this one is offered at :?
