| After a four year search search I've finally found a 2003 B10 3.3 touring. It's the family car of my dreams and is perfect in just about every way. However one thing that really bugs me is the creaking drivers and passenger door seals when driving around corners, over speed bumps, etc. I can't work out why this car does it when I never had this problem my old 528 that I owned for 4 years. The door seals all seem to be in good condition. It's really annoying. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it? |

I had the same noisy seal problem on an E39 530i and found that the BMW gooey stuff was only effective for a few weeks. I tried several things and eventually found that a Holts aerosol of Nylon and Rubber lubricant worked foe several months. Dont know if they still do it.

| Thanks very much for the replies. It's a great relief to know it's not just my car that suffers this problem. I've also heard that vaseline can be used. BMW also apparently recognise the problem and have a product called Anti-Creak Agent (part number: 83 19 9 408 523) although it's quite pricey. Is this the "BMW gooey stuff" you tried John B10? |

Hello. The gooey stuff was in a green tube and had a name beginning with "GUMMI------? I know that this seal noise was a problem with a lot of E39's so maybe they have had to develop something new. Must be worth a try.

If it's the same on the E46 as on the E39, it's the outer door seals that are the problem rather than the inner ones.
You could try removing any wax from the where the door seals contact the paintwork. Zymol HD-Cleanse would be good for this, or use a detergent.
Also try cleaning the flock covering on the door seals to remove any contaminants (i.e. wax, etc.).
Also make sure the flock covering on the door seals is in good condition and is doing its job of preventing any of the rubber from contacting the paintwork.
If all else fails, a last resort would be to fit new door seals one at a time and see if that works. _________________ Graham

Tinkerman,
I had a similar problem with my B10 until I used Gummifledge or however it is spelt, but I am not sure this is still available.
Not only do I apply it to all the rubber seals on the doors but also to the felt seal at the top and that was the end of the problem for me. I do this a couple of times a year and have had no creaking since. Basically I think it is a poor design issue with the E39.
If you do a search on the m5board.com site under the E39 M5 threads you will come across a variety of ways in which people have dealt with this problem.
Now how about my occasionally creaking sunroof? _________________ Jim
