Is it too early?

Post by Charles » Tue Mar 13, 2018 9:39 am

Down South, the temperature is steadily rising and I am keen to get the proper wheels back on the car - so I am planning a switch to summer rubber this weekend (a brand new set of PS4 tyres all round)

Too early?

Forecast for the rest of the month is still fairly cold - max 10, mins of 1 degree.
Over the next few days the max of 10 degrees is only for a couple of hours during mid afternoon.

I'm going to wait till next month.

Did you get any deals on the PS4s?

It's flip a coin time! Unless you do a lot of driving between midnight and 6:00am when it will be cold, it seems the temperatures are likely to be either a few degrees below the 7℃ crossover or a few degrees above. Take into account it's going to be wet and the full tread on the new PS4s may well swing it for you.

That was my thinking.

It was a balance between getting the cheapest price and working with my regular tyre fitter so that he got some margin and I got some discount. I went for the latter because, when it comes to having tyres fitted, I would prefer my fitter to be happy with the deal rather than pissed off

I've been thinking the same over the last couple of days, but have decided to keep them as they are just for now.
On the plus side, I've had the B6 out a couple of times which kinda makes the winter set up on the B3s more acceptable 8)

I'm going for it!

Despite the cold forecast for the weekend, the temperatures are set to rise significantly from Monday and I don't need my car over the weekend.

Decision made :D

Change of plan!!!!!

I've fitted the new tyres to the rims today but am still on winters for the next few days - discretion being the better part of valour.

The car's off to CPC for an oil service and MOT next weekend, so I'll dump the summer set in the back and they can be changed over whilst there. Then she is staying there the following week for a diet of clay bars, paint correction polish and wax :D

There may be a need to drop the rear subframe to replace the (original) brake pipes, depending on what the MOT identifies - so Phil will be taking a close look to check for any cracking at the same time.

So I am looking forward to an immaculately presented car after Easter, just in time to road test the PS4 tyres :D

Makes sense for the snow to be out of the way, before the putting the new tyres.

Sounds like the car is getting a treat over Easter!

I fully agree with putting now the summers back on, but sadly the state of the roads whre i live at the moment is so dreadful, that i’d rather bust an 18’. Bmw m3 alloy than my alpina 19’s....

Sad state of affairs, really.......but hey ho.

Cheers,

Should be getting mine on this weekend after cleaning and sealing up 100 odd spokes on the 19"s.

Its like getting a new car when you put the summer wheels back on in the first week!
