d3 prices
Just been trawling though the general cloassifieds...ebay/autotrader and i cant believe how cheap you can pick up a d3 for !!!!!
I totally love mine..
1st class drive
handle superbly
fabulous on fuel
extremely practical
the list goes on and on..
Everyone whos selling one states * a rare car* ..if thats the case why aremt the prices sky high...
look forward too peoples thoughts who own one

Compared to other marques, the D3 is a rare car. However, compared to other variants of Alpina, it is not - see here
Added to this is that the E9x D3s - both mono and bi turbo - are 2 litre 4 pot engines unlike the latest generation of D3s which are 3 litre 6 pot lumps.
Finally, the E9x D3s were priced at around the £30k mark at a time when Alpina needed to shift cars and the majority will be of a similar limited spec.
All of this tends to drive down secondhand prices - which may not be a good thing for current owners but is an excellent thing for newcomers who plan to keep the car for a while.
Unlike the petrol variants, the E9x D3s are unlikely to start appreciating in value for quite a while, in my very humble opinion.

I'd also factor in the lack of public awareness of the Alpina brand in the UK. On continental Europe, the brand awareness is far higher and therefore demand is greater for Alpina's.
The ride and handling of the E91 I had was awesome, it just ran out of power on the uphill section of the Nurburgring towards the carousel where a Petrol or bigger diesel lump (like my F31) wouldn't be a problem.

So would i be right in thinking that to get prices higher people who wish to sell should start getting more "GREADY"....just like the classic car market has.
Lets face it who woild of thought a mk1 escort, fiesta years ago would ever reach the prices they do now !!!!.

I think it’s the choice of engine that is the downfall long term for the D3. Diesel is now turning into the new bad boy on the block emissions wise and can prove costly to repair on older cars, (dpf’s, swirl flaps, turbos etc).
I am struggling to think of any car where there is a petrol version available where the diesel has gone on to become an appreciating asset in any meaningful way.
