Air-ride Alpina

Post by D3-No.435 » Tue Oct 17, 2017 8:07 pm

Come accross this photo of a E90 Alpina running air suspension.

Whats peoples thoughts? I'm sure the hardcore Alpina enthusiast won't be to pleased.

IMHO, wheels should be seen fitting the arch and not creeping up under it.

ALPINA or not, I think it looks ridiculous

The essence of Alpina is driving dynamics and a huge part of this is the chassis set up. Handling with ride quality. A subtly lowered stance and beautiful wheels. Only Buchloe can master this combination.
So to remove this core part of the car's engineering and replace it with this?
Each to their own, but this is not an Alpina.

That sort of thing is always going to grate on a specialist forum like this.
If someone wants to modify their car I guess they can do what they like but why bother doing that to an Alpina instead of a stock BMW I have no idea.
I was at Shelsley Walsh breakfast club lthe other weekend and there were some “Stantz” style jap metal there. I chuckled to myself overhearing the old boys from the morgan owners gang trying to get their heads around it.
Not my cup of tea but live and let live I guess.

My opinion is kind of split on this.

I'm not a fan of air-ride however having added personal touches to almost every car I have owned I can see the point. On this one I think the front looks beautiful with the wheels nicely following the arch line but the rear looks a bit ridiculous. Would be interesting to see how it looks when slightly raised or even on the move.

I'm over 50!!! - and have a black E93 B3S BT and I don't think it looks at all right in that picture. Can't see the point of takng one of Alpinas trademark improvements ie suspension and ride quality and tampering with it.
