B10 V8 #540

Post by ali » Fri Sep 29, 2017 7:48 pm

has just landed beside my B3 #108
Having been looking at buying other cars I have decided to keep my Touring as it is the best car I have ever owned.
it need a wee bit of bodywork as the rear arches are starting to bubble and a sheep scraped its horn down my drivers door so the plan is to have it off the road this winter to sort out those issues.
Being as I don't want to be with out an Alpina and always wanted a V8 I bought #540 today
Prefacelift B10 V8
150k miles
FSH and just had £3k spent on the timing chain issues commensurate with the V8 lump
Just had new discs and pads all round
Has a moon roof and extended leather so is stitched dash etc
Sport electric seats with 3 x memory
Harmon Kardon sounds
Oh and it has double glazing too

Car is not without its issues though as has EML light on after getting the timing chain issues sorted. Camshaft sensor bank 1 error
The sills are rotten to the core
The last owner jacked it up on the transport pad and it went through the sills but rather than scrap the car I felt it deserved some love and I will get 2 x new inner and outer sills done and also some paint on it too and it will do as my hack about car until I get #108 back up to par
Heater blows hot air constantly so something needs fixing there.
The pixels are gone on the dash
Plenty to do but worth saving the old girl in my humble opinion
It isn't on the register so if any kind person wants to rob these pics and put it on that it fine by me
I look forward to V8 ownership and the adventures it will bring

the leather dash would of been an expensive option on its own!

Sounds like you have your hands full

Nice car with a very special interior! First I've seen with a leather upper dash as well.
These old chariots take some maintaining but are totally worth it. Enjoy!

excellent save, the heater is probably down to the FSU, easy enough fix if you have slender hands and long fingers!

I have replaced the hedgehog FSU on an E39 before Not sure if it is the same symptoms though.
The fan blows from slow to fast and down again and I get hot and cold air out the dash vents but just seems that the windscreen vents blows hot air all the time
Might try it anyway for the sake of £40

Definitely worth saving with that combination. Brave decision made when spec'ing this car.

Great individual leather. I've never seen a RHD e39 leather dash and always thought they only did them in LHD. Good luck with it!

Double glazing is a new thing to me and makes the drive whisper quiet which is nice but sadly mutes the V8 noise too.C an't have everything :P
A few miles under my ownership now and everything seems to work and do what it is supposed to do with no nasty bangs or rattles
Progression in a rapid fashion is effortless and the box is smooth as butter so very pleased with it on the whole
First BMW/Alpina I have ever owned with a sound system that actually sounds decent even though it has a tape player in it !!!!
All the Alpina bits are there including 4 x floor mats in VGC and boot floor mat
Centre caps all use the same key but one out of the three is snapped in two.
Still got the working glovebox torch too and complete toolkit and triangle so very happy with the originality of it all.
Going in for initial check underneath and see how severe the rust is on Tuesday.
Won't be pretty but needs must

Ali, I managed to get some keys copied at Timpson's as two of mine were a bit fragile. The blanks they used were JMA type with code DOM 1D. If this is any help.
