Costco currently offering 5w30 Castrol Edge for £25 for 4l, and 0w30 Edge for £27 for 4 litres (inc. VAT)Metrics wrote:Holy (oil) smokes Batman, I buy 4l Castrol Edge (the previous BMW oil of choice, LL04) from Costco for £27Charles wrote:Why charge a fortune for a branded oil and only get a small slice when you can charge slightly less (appears cheaper) and get an even bigger slice?
I am currently using Shell Ultra fully synthetic 5W-40 which meets all the specification requirements for BMW and can get 10 litres for about £50 (£5 per litre) compared to nearer £80 for 8 litres of Castrol (£10 per litre).
Alternatively, you can buy a litre from the dealer and pay £18

Further to previous post, my B10 V8 was filled up with 5W40 at the last service and hasn't used up any oil in 3000 miles so I don't know whether it would use any oil up with 0W30, but probably not, so I will try 0W30 this time.

Sytner UK said they would use the BMW fuel (Shell Helix Ultra) if they do a service on an Alpina but that's not necessarily the same question as to what they would recommend if one did it outside the Alpina/BMW dealer network.Broch wrote:BMW changed to Shell oils not so long ago.
I asked Andreas about this and he told me that Alpina still recommend Castrol
I will continue to supply my own oil at service times
