ALPINA sill Emblems all loose

Post by robmarrs » Mon Jul 03, 2017 5:33 pm

I am after a bit of help and advice if you would be so kind

I have just noticed that the lovely Illuminated blue Alpina sill logo has all come loose from the backing, and on one side of the vehicle it has only ever half illuminated.

Does anybody know how the illumination works, seems to be some sort of white strip under the logo that I guess illuminates some how?

Anybody removed the whole sill panel, if so how..... just lever it up and are there some wires behind it.

I need the reaffix the the Alpina logo back down, any bright ideas, there seems to be some very thin double sided foam stamped gasket that stuck it down originally, I have seen some 3M VHB DS tapes on ebay that are 0.64mm thick that look the sort of thing that were used originally.

The strips do just stick down so if you can fit new adhesive pads underneath then that will do the job.
As far as the illuminations of the sills go I think you might be out of luck. I stripped my sills apart on my e39 due to the same issue and it's down to the illuminating strip failing. This is not replaceable on its own as far as I'm aware. Many B10 guys have tried but none have succeeded to my (limited) knowledge in get them replaced.
Here is a link to a thread which might help (or not)!

I wouldn't be surprised if a replacement illuminated strip was available for a B6. Okay I am guessing, but perhaps a different company manufactured them and can still supply or maybe as a newer car there are still some in stock. Worth asking the (no doubt expensive) question I would have thought.

Thanks for the link Phil, I will have a read and see if it helps me, but having had a second look tonight it is a weird illuminating thin plastic strip with some tape circuitry on the back that lights up blue, on my passenger side only half of it is blue the other half is dead.

I will go for a bigger sum allowing for some "A" tax into the equation of £485 +VAT

Well the quote from Sytner Sunningdale is as follows:-

"Alpina have confirmed that part number 91 47 5 147 668 is available within the normal 2-3 week lead time. The price including VAT is £512.98 which will be required in full prior to the order being placed"

So at £427.48 + VAT - Phil is the winner, I'll bring a bottle to Gaydon as I am now so poor I can't afford the carriage!

However I did end up paying a chunk less ordering from FMW Tuning in Germany, cost was £352.81 delivered at the prevailing exchange rate of 1 GBP = 1.1 EUR. Just waiting for it to turn up now.
