Transmission mounts
Transmission mounts
Hi all,
My e46 Coupe has slowly developed a knocking sound that seems to originate directly below the transmission. Also, feel a knock between gear changes when putting my foot down. I suspect the mounts are shot. It's an auto with 123k. Does anybody know if the mounts are just regular 328ci ones that the car was based on or alpina specific?
Cheers Titch

Much more likely to be the mounts in the diff, or worse the rear subframe mounts have sheared from the chassis, causing the entire subframe to flex..
If your car has already had these fixed then the transmission mounts or center support bearing maybe the culprit..

Propshaft donut
Diff mounts
Rear axle bushes
Exhaust centre box bracket
Made a hell of a difference! Well chuffed...
Just as an aside has anyone heard of a ALPINA e46 Sub frame mounts shearing?
Had a look at mine and there is no issue at all. My brothers M3 has had the Patch done at sometime in its life.

Pleased you located the noises. Did you check the centre mount/bearing for the propshaft at the same time?Titch wrote:Just to update: had the car up on the ramp and found numerous items needed replacing: this is what I had done.

IIRC, this happened on early E46 variants - typically late 90s - but I haven't heard of the same on later models. HTHMickB3 wrote:Just as an aside has anyone heard of a ALPINA e46 Sub frame mounts shearing?
