Alpina B2.5 Saloon

Post by bennnydotc » Fri Sep 02, 2016 11:31 pm

I thought I'd start a thread about my newly acquired B2.5. The car had already been discussed here before I purchased it:

http://thealpinaregister.com/forums/vie ... highlight=

I've owned it around three weeks now and so far I'm really enjoying it. Not a lot to report at this stage other than since purchasing it I've fitted sport seats as they are much more comfortable, and externally I've fitted orange front indicators and M3 mirrors. I'll be changing the rear indicators to orange too as soon as I find a decent set.

I know the M3 mirrors wouldn't have been fitted to the car originally but they are so much nicer than the standard ones and they are are least OEM. They look lovely in the Laguna Green, which is a great colour by way - And I say that as someone who generally doesn't like green cars.

Next on the to-do-list a wheel refurb and general servicing for now. This is how it looked when I picked it up.....

Looking good with the mirrors upgrade. You should be able to pick up a decent set of rear lamps off eBay.

There's loads on there but I think I'm being overly fussy looking for 20yr old lights without scratches :D

Car is looking good. 8)

Once mine is done we could have a mini meet up. :)

Plenty of amber rear light sets about so you can take your time choosing. I managed to stumble upon a good set of fleabay for very little money.

Need to get some sports seats for mine, still looking :pray

Thanks mate. I'm going to try to get to a few meets next year, I've not been to any for a while. I've got my eyes on a few sets of lights and hopefully I'll get some cheap - not hard really as most people don't want them.

I was lucky with my seats. They are in great condition and weren't far from where I live.

Very nice, my first BMW was an E36 318ise saloon, so I've a soft spot for them. I'd love one again too, leaning toward a Z3.

Mirrors look good.

I've got a soft spot for them too. They have been unloved for years but I think they are starting to mature well and are becoming a modern classic. Or maybe that's wishful thinking on my part!

I've only had the B2.5 a few weeks but I've already had a few conversations with strangers about it....Mostly along the lines of, "You don't see many of these about any more. 148K mikes, no way!"

Well it's my daily driver from now on so let's hope so

It should be perfect for me to be honest. It's comfortable, practical for the school run, not to bad on fuel, parts are cheap and it doesn't drive like a 23yr old car. The M50B25 might not be the most glamorous engine BMW ever produced but it is good, especially with the Alpina tweeks. It's such a smooth motor, you can't tell the engine is running on idle. Once the revs rise it's actually surprisingly nippy too. It even sounds nice, without being too raucous.

There is no reason they would get scratched on the car. Therefore any marks would be through storage and be easily polished out. The important thing is to buy a matched pair. Because you can get colour differences. We found this out when buying a single for our E30 M3 :?

Nice looking pair here at a bargain price. I think they are for the saloon. You cant go wrong at that price. Grab yourself a bargain before someone else does.

I like your car very much. In fact I almost bought it after talking to Alex the previous owner whilst at Silverstone. In the end we decided we allready had enough cars at the moment  I do find the PTO number plate somewhat disconcerting though

EDIT: Or if you fancy your chances at auction there is a full set here. Including the amber side repeaters that you will also need.

E24man wrote:I have a huge soft spot for the B2.5; it may go against the grain of the 'Buchloe-only' die-hards but I think it is completely in the spirit of the founding days of Herr Bovensiepen where a cam, suspension, some general tweaking and styling giving an overall huge package improvement were the aim and ideal.

I will still say that B2.5 is the perfect all-year-rounder for an Alpinista.

Well if you ever fancy a trade for that old touring...... :D A few people have mentioned the PTO plate, maybe I'd better get a private one.

Hopefully a set of lights is on the way, so I'll update the thread when fitted.
