Steering wheel re-cover

Post by BarryM » Sun Jan 17, 2016 11:14 pm

I'm about to send my spare Alpina steering wheel off to Jack at Royal to re-cover it.

Although I don't have any alcantara in the car I think I'm going for it but just can't decide on grey or black as my interior is predominantly light grey leather.

Has anyone else gone with an alcantara steering wheel or any thoughts on choosing it over leather?

Once I get my wheel back I'm thinking of going for the hand brake & gear lever boots & handles in matching alcantara, possibly with Alpina green & blue stitching - has anyone done this?

The only example I can find is here: http://thealpinaregister.com/forums/vie ... ight=bored which I think looks pretty good but I was thinking of the coloured stitching just on the boots parts rather than the handles.

This is mine at the moment so intending to swap the grey leather bits for grey alcantara to match my new s/wheel but not sure if coloured stitching is going to look too boy racerish.

Due back in 7/10 days, having looked at the stitching on the 'boots' its pretty minimal so I'll probably go with the blue & green.

Look forward to seeing pics Barry. Do you have black carpets in your car, or darker grey?

I've got a very light grey interior throughout including the mats so along with the steering wheel and brake/gear bits I'm thinking the anthracite mats would be better but not sure if they're still available. Whilst I've been very happy with the interior I just think a bit of a change would be nice.

Very nice Barry.
Black alcantara gearknob with green & blue stitching would work well, with the black mats (pretty sure you can still get the black mats).

I chased Jack yesterday and he's now told me the wheel 'didn't turn out well' so they're doing it again :(

I'm actually pleased he's told me this because I really don't want something that's 'ok' I'm expecting something very good!
