Depends who the dealer uses. A company like ASM should have that covered. You can get cover for any age car at a price. But once you top 100k the cover will drop to engine and gearbox only. Along with strict maintenance conditions.

Also don't forget. The car maybe 12yo, but it has done under 60k

Another thing worth remembering if considering buying from a reputable dealer.

If the car you are viewing has any imperfections i.e stone chips, small dents, bumper and wheel scuffs. The dealer will normally be able to correct those issues by way of a "smart repair" At no extra cost.

:D

Thanks Terry. Will note that.

Rang Amir. Not in today :( but have emailed him outlining what I propose in response to his offer as well as requesting reg. mark and owners detail. I have joined the BMW Car club as well as it should enable me to obtain a decent insurance through A-Plan.

Have asked him to email me tomorrow and will discuss it over phone.

Moving on...

Cheers,

Amir certainly appears to take a lot of time out. "while the cats away" is what you experienced the other day :?

A-Plan are pretty good. We have the B3 with them.

I was going to suggest Liverpool Victoria as they give reduced rates to CSMA members. But when my son called them they could not even find Alpina on there database

We also found Churchill very reasonable as well. Not much between them and A-Plan.

Good luck with your ongoing quest :D

Thanks Terry. See what Amir thinks.....

Yes, used to be with LV, until they got quite expensive!

Will be putting 2 cars on so hopefully can get a decent multicar deal. Not changing my partner, Annie's.

I dropped £500 off the original offer and requested the warranty. Inspection obviously won't be done/organised by them until there is commitment to buy. If inspection is done prior then down to me!

Well it looks like you were never meant to have the car in the first place Jon.

It is a shame because it did look a nice car. From what you told me I think he will struggle to sell it.

Maybe he will e,mail you in a couple of months and ask if you want it for 6k. I think I would buy it for that :D

You never know Terry. He went from £10k to £9800. Came back again with £9600! I think it's clear ownership is an issue.

There have been other potential buyers on here looking for similar cars, but original pricing put them off. Now it's dropped considerably there maybe someone out there who will take it at a competitive price, for the mileage, and not worry about ownership! Risky though?

My partner's son-in-law, who's a confirmed car buff actually said couldn't understand why I was looking for an Alpina..."They're not BMW's"!! Then again he now has run of the mill 530d Touring, albeit a new one!

Clearly not aware of 50 years relationship! Therein lies the rub..and why it wouldn't sell, except to an nthusiast or someone wanting to be different!
I think personally Amir will farm it out to auction. There's a roadster coming up at the Silverstone Auction. Today I think. It's been about as well! No sale!

Good to talk :D

You may be right there if he is unable to sell it. I attend most of the classic auctions, so I will spot it if it shows up.

Yes, that Z3 at Silverstone has been up for sale a while now. It did not sell at there last auction. The coupe is a much more a attractive car than the roadster I think and in high demand at the moment. If you want a good one then you can expect to pay upwards of £20+k. My son has been after a nice coupe for a while now. He tried to buy this one, but the price just kept climbing with every bid he made, so he dropped out. The estimate was £15-£18k

It is a very good auction if you fancy a drive out. Always lots of very nice and interesting cars. There next auction is 29th August, but the listings are not yet complete.

Keep hunting Jon. I am sure the right car will turn up soon. :D

Thanks Terry. Yes, I look at the auction sites, mainly for something different! aren't we all?

Believe it or not, when I started thinking about a second car I first looked at XJS's and XK8's but moved on when reliability seemed to be a big issue. Then it came down to Mercedes and BMW. Mercedes only had the CLK as a decent 4 seater and it would be 55AMG or 350 Sport(apparently there are engine issues).

Also, rust is well known 2002-2005 models. Few AMG's about, even on the Merc forum so to M3's(common and expensive maintenance) and 330's and on to Alpina to find more of what I was looking for!

It's been an interesting time and still looking forward to the chase :)

Yes. I have seen that one Jon. But as I said I am not keen on the roadster myself. The coupe is much better looking. From the rear it looks like a wild animal

Mercs, Jags, BMWs................So many choices that you have to make

This was a very nice AMG. I got talking to the owner about it. Nice history.

And I was sooooo tempted by this. If it had sold for under 10k I would of been the new owner. What a great little car :D

Oooops! Going of track here. This is sposed to be buying advice for Alpina.

:D Yes, love the 2002. Remember when they first appeared and the 1602...and then Tii appeared. Worth a lot now! Great little cars.

Lovely 300e! That's when they were well built! The R129 SL came on the radar too, but difficult to find the right spec. Plenty out there though! Lovely engine in the 320!

That's what Annie says. I like too many cars and can't make up my mind!! She was surprised when I did, only to find it wasn't quite what it seemed!!

I agree about the Z3. Lot wilder than the 4!

That used to be my problem as well.
