Dear oh dear. How very uptight!

We've all done the bit about 'is everyone ok?' Its clear the OP is. He doesn't state anything about the other person despite being asked but we can hope he/she is. So now that's all done what is there apart from some bent metal? Why is a pic or two such a big deal unless it incrimnates the OP or the other party was hurt? And, if the other party was hurt by your actions who gives a *** about your broken car- you would keep that to yourself.

Actually I was expressing a personal opinion without any prior consultation with the OP, who I don't think I've ever met or spoken to online.

Sadly I believe that we now live in a society where the instant accessibility of information via social media and the internet has changed people's expectations about what they should be allowed to see and hear - now! This is the sole basis of my reaction to your previous post.

Whilst I find your post most amusing, it is completely unrepresentative of what members of this forum are actually like. As a community, we tend to keep each other informed about the state of our cars. This is not for sympathy but instead for advice, guidance and information - particularly as our cars are quite a rarity and shared knowledge is highly valuable to us all. Reporting the write-off of a vehicle is similar to reporting a stolen one - particularly if said vehicle reappears down the line and is offered for sale again.

I am sure you would like to know the history of car before buying it?

^ I think I agree with you about what the community is like on here. From what I've seen people arent high brow or cliche-y. Certainly the members I met at the 50th bash in Buchloe were fantastic and I hope to keep in touch with them - lovely people! That's why I took umbridge at the comments made by yourself and Mac - 'tasteless' and 'just ignore him'......

I understand your point about registering the car as a write off but presumably then there is a 'sticky' is there within the forum where the details, spec, reg number, chassis number and plaque numbers of all stolen and written off cars are stored for future protection of members? Presumably the OP has offered those details to that sticky for that reason because they aren't on his original post for the benefit of future searching...?

Regardless it's clearly a decent sized crash and what's in showing a pic or two? I don't actually care that much, and never did, but was surprised we got so far into a thread (which was just a series of people feeling obliged to say "oh gosh are you ok person we've never met before") without any pics hence putting a tongue in cheek post up. It's hardly a big deal any of this but and not worthy of the snotty reply I got!!

Ps my vote now goes that there is a 'story' to tell here and that's why the OP is so touchy.

The problem with the internet and online communication is that one person's tongue in cheek post is another man's tasteless comment.

Equally, I could rise to the "snotty" gibe but then what does "snotty" actually mean? Patronising, condescending or dripping with bogeys?

If Mac wants to post pics then he will - if not then we will just have to go without. At least we are aware of the condition of the vehicle as well as knowing that all people involved are safe and well.

As far as I am concerned, I hope this is the end of this diversion.

Looking at this from another angle:
What damage was incurred to result in the car being written off?

Furthermore, including pictures of the damage in the register may mean that should the car reappear on the road a buyer may find this site, view the car and realise what they are actually buying.

EDIT:
In other words, it is worth understanding the damage as to whether it was expensive cosmetic stuff smashed wheels and body panels; OR structural stuff, twisted chassis etc.

Here's a picture of a totalled X3.

I'm sure from this you can see the damage done in order to write the vehicle off!

This isn't MAC's car nor is it an XD3, but it should satisfy the needs of anyone who wants to know what damage would be required to write the vehicle off - A pillar & C pillar damage are usually enough on their own.

Perhaps now it's time to put the thread to bed, it's getting a touch out of hand and never in my short but obviously illustrious posting time on the forums have I seen a thread descend to the levels it has.

Hi Mac, Also sorry to hear about this. I remember seeing you and the XD3 at a Sytner meet a year ago and it was good to have a tour of the car and catch up on your Alpina experiences also.

Thought a bit more on this.......

So here we are, insurance now paid out and I do not have worry what is shown.
As you can see no where near as dramatic as the picture by Paulb!
