BEST ROUTE TO BUCHLOE?

Post by Rolf » Fri May 15, 2015 4:33 pm

Hi,

I'm going in June.

Is there an established "best route" to get there.

On the map, there's countless different routes. I could do with a fast/simple one.

Any advice greatly welcomed, so I can book somewhere to stopover on the way.

Thanks,

Tim

I guess it depends where you are starting from

I am night stopping at Neunkirchen in Germany, which is on the route I am taking is approx 330 miles.
Then approx another 240 down to Buchloe.

The route I am taking from Calais is:

Calais to Dunkirk E40
E42 Lille, Mons, at Namur on to the E411 to Luxembourg (cheap Fuel)
From Luxembourg take E29 to towards Wallerfangen, then on to The 8.where I am diverting to Neunkirchen.
In the morning back on the 8
At Landau take 65 to Karlsruhe.
Then E52 towards Dornstadt then 28 to Ulm then on the 7 down to Memmingen.
On to the E54 to Buchloe.

Used this to work out my route, put via Mons and Neunkirchen in.

Staying at the Holiday Inn Express Neunkirchen.

Another route is via Reims and Metz, it is slightly longer and is subject to French Tolls :(

Brilliant, I'm looking at that now.

I hadn't considered avoiding France and their tolls.

Thanks for your help.

It's a good job you're already in Kent. I've got a not very pleasurable 200+ miles to Dover.

Are you using the chunnel or ferry?

I am using the Chunnel courtesy of Tesco
Even though I am in Kent it is still 50miles, should take me about 45 minutes :D

Hi Myself and Pablo are travelling out on the 3:27am tunnel crossing on 26th, we are doing a bit of a mad trip down which will include Luxembourg, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Austria before reaching Buchloe. Then we travel back on 28th to get the 21:50 crossing home.
May seem mad on the way down but being so close to Liechtenstein it had to be done.

It may mean a mileage on the outward trip of about 680 miles, compared to a direct to Buchloe of 555.

No problem. I'll see what Kiran wants
I'm just back from a trip to Barcelona (conference) during which the poor D3 did 2,250 miles. Nothing compared of course to my car trip to Greece last summer again with the D3: about 6 or 7 thousand miles!

Yeah - so are we. Haven't paid for a Eurotunnel trip for years now. One of the best perks I've encountered.

The route between Calais and Namur is not nice and full of roadworks. I don't recommend it. (last time I took it partly was yesterday).
Instead, from Calais you can go through Gent-Brussels-Liege, then south to Germany (I will probably book the Holiday Inn in Neukirchen as well).
Why not make a stop in Spa-Francorchamps, have a view on the beautiful circuit, and have a lunch there? The motorway from Liege until Germany is full of nice bends and sloaps in a forest/fields landscape, with very few traffic.
I will depart from Brussels on 26 AM (I'm flexible on the timing). I will be happy to convoy with anyone. Will drive the B7 Turbo coupe.

sherlock this is a good idea :)

We are planning to be at Calais early in the morning of the 26th, as we booked Untere Mühle hotel for the nights 26 and 27. We take myferrylink and arrival time at Calais is 09:30 local time. So until we arrive near Brussels, it should be 90 minutes max.

And the route I was thinking of is indeed via Gent-Liège and Spa, as we have done this before a couple of years ago and it is really picturesque.

After that straight to Germany flat out (as much as possible) until your destination and then ours

What do you think?
