Far simpler - you just need to look at the HG graveyard at the back of my garage :shock:

Whilst HGs can go at any time in any car, the most prevalent are those for the 3.4s engine - which tend to go at about 80k miles on average.

The V8 blocks appear to have quite resilient HGs as do the 3.3 engines

Thanks for your input gents.

Assuming no further damage how much am I looking at to have the head gasket replaced with a new item at a reputable garage in or around London? I've done a bit of research and have seen figures of £2k up which is a bit extortionate no?

The HG is literally the only thing putting me off this car right now as it's not been done yet.
