Calling All E36 Owners

Post by D4 » Fri Jan 05, 2007 10:58 pm

Total BMW are planning an ALPINA (& possibly an M Car shoot out) at Bruntingthorpe around the end of Jan or beginning of Feb.

Details are a little sketchy as they need to pull together the cars.

But it's more than likely going to be a Saturday

They would like 1 or each of the E36 ALPINA engines to be represented.

so: If my memory serves me correctly.

B 2.5
B6 2.8
B3 3.0
B3 3.2
B8 4.6

(I doubt we'll get a B8 4.0 as there were only 4 of them)

I understand that they're interested to have an M3 3.0 and M3 3.2 EVO also.

There is planned to have a photoshoot and article written about the cars and may try some high speed runs too..

Generally the magazines don't drive the cars (they let the owners do that) unless a journalist really wants to have a go and then it's entirely up to the owner in question..
So:
Who's interested in bringing their car along. I need to get back to them with names. so please add your name to the list below and email me contact details to andy@thealpinaregister.com with subject of: Total BMW.

Thanks

Andy

DOn't think they'll want an E46 Gazoo but you never know.

Andy,

For those that can get the time off, is it worth getting a spread of Alps along anyway? I wouldn't mind coming along (subject to my work situation).
Regards,

James

As the topic says the event is primarily an E36 only event. - i'm sure that it will be possible for a few spectators to attend.. but I wouldn;t expect the other cars to get too much attention from the Photographer or Journalist as they will up against it timewise to feature the E36 models without having to worry about other models too. Additionally for safety reasons i'm pretty sure they won't simply let others hoon up and down the main straight while they're trying to set up shots etc...

Can we just keep to E36's at the moment and i'll see what else is possible once the details are confirmed...

I wasn't looking to get in on the article or rag it up and down in my car. Just wanted to attend in my car at another Alpina event. I have had an offer of transportation in an E36 though ;)

I'm a mod on E36coupe.com

Want me to spread the word?

We certainly have a 3.2 on the forum, and I think a 2.8

I think Total BMW want Hap's B3 3.2 - but that's not 100% but yes by all means spread the word.

I think also Neil is penciled in as the B8 (weather permitting)

I do hope they don't start doing comparisons of standing start acceleration - a B8 would have some real traction issues on that crummy surface in the cold and wet!!!

Andy, Can you clarify something as I think this is causing confusion: Is it a meet of all Alpina E36s, or TBMW only want one of each example?

Hythe, I would like to say that a couple months ago you said something like: “Neal it is a shame that you don’t like manual gearboxes, or else you would have loved the B8”. My replay was not that positive but after seeing Neil’s B8 (Photos only), I have changed my mind about the B8.

it certainly will - if its wet it won't be there  (well mine won't anyway - and I agree Bruntingthorpe is a rough old track) generally people do running starts

To clarify it's a photshoot for Total BMW - they would like to put together an article of all of the E36 ALPINA's produced and hopefully some in top condition (although the camera doesn;t show up as much as you would think so don;t be bashfull many average cars can look great when shot professionally...)

So I'd like to get as good a feedback as possible and then let Total pick and choose which cars or model variants they'd like to use..

Generally the action shots on these shoots are done at little ove walking speed on slow shutter speeds so there shouldn't be too many issues with grip etc.. I think the runway aspect is only really a possible atraction to those who'd like a big open space to test out their cars - but certainly not gonna be a drag race type affair....

Until a few days ago this would not have been of any interest but since Simon and Mrs Chas have been plotting a surprise for my birthday it's now on the radar screen! 8)
