2007 Events Calender

Post by D4 » Fri Oct 06, 2006 1:33 am

Ok.. as discussed HERE
and on other meets threads in the past.

We want to try and have a 'game-plan' for meets in 2007.

Obviously there will be the set Club events like Gaydon, Tatton Park and Donington (and i'm sure there are others..) but how about we start trying to draw up a plan to take the ALPINA register around this little island of ours.

So far we have had interest in going to:
Hampshire (the Vine)
The Lakes (Cumbria)

What about some other locations like:
Mid/North Wales/Angelsey?
Norfolk Broads?
Devon/Cornwall/Somerset?
Scottish Highlands?
Isle of Man (where I believe there aren't any speed limits  ) ?
F1 Grand Prix or DTM weekend (somewhere like Spa or Magnycours)
LeMans 2007
ALPINA Factory Visit drive (this might be asking alot as it's 900 miles each way from London)

Obviously each area will have good and bad timings what with summer traffic and time of year with weather etc...

But my thought would be to have a meet with some type of purpose - weather it's to visit a landmark or stately home or similar or perhaps a meet with lunch and then a drive afterwards... in otherwords a meet with a bit of an itinaery about it.

I'd like volunteers to make suggestions and perhaps volunteer to running a meet of this type in either their area or to a destination that they would like to visit.

Some of these meets could and should be stopovers and it's as important that the events are interesting to those attending even if we get fewer cars to each meet... (due to timings or cost)

There will still be the regular pubmeets and BMWCCGB events wheer we can have the static displays

All comments appreciated

Great idea, though with 2 little people in tow (not to mention a wife who's not really into this sort of thing that much), I'm not sure I'll be able to make any of the long-distance events...

Andy I think you have got some brilliant ideas for the future but surprised at the lack of response. Your idea of the trip to the factory in Germany is very tempting indeed. Is the ring very far from the factory. :D

The Alpina Gemeinschaft will be holding their annual event in Liechtenstein
next year which is only 100 miles from the factory. :D
So why not organise a trip that combines the two.

Mine was the only Alpina from the UK to attend this years Gemeinschaft,
and we were made very welcome and made some new friends.
The organisers were disappointed that more Alpina's from the Uk had not turned up and my B10 was the focus of attention. 8)

The Gemeinschaft meetings are normally held on the first weekend in July

It is a very good opportunity to see models of Alpina's you don't usually
see in the UK and meet Alpina enthusiasts from all over Europe :P
The Nurburgring is around 320 miles from the factory

Andy, I spoke to my brother-in-law who runs the Cross Keys pub in Tebay [Lake District] and he said they are awaiting the result of planning permission for 6 more rooms [after buying the field!]. If all goes well they are hoping for completion Feb/March 2007 and the pub would have 15 rooms available.
He said he would keep us posted on developments then we can set a date for a weekend or longer in spring or summer.

Depends where in Sweden - overnight ferry to Gothenburg is easy, plus 2-4 hours drive depending on where it is.

Alternatively the drive across Holland, up thru Germany, across Denmark and over the bridge at Copenhagen takes 2 solid days of driving, with a good chance of some right foot to the floor stuff. Great so long as you can make the time available...

I am subject to when the Gemeinschaft meeting is. I am normally away at a [flame suit on] Vauxhall/Opel show [/flame suit off] at Billing Aquadrome on the second weekend of July. Isn't it also Le Mans?

The German trip will be worth it James, you would get to see several of your beloved B12's.
Also you will be able to stretch the legs of your B10, cruising heaven.
There will be several excellent English speakers at the Gemeinschaft meeting, who will help you feel part of the event.
Together with a Factory visit who could ask for more.
Also Germany is still very reasonable for accommodation and food.
I go to Germany every year and always have a great trip :D

I will always like them but any Alpina is good.

It depends on whether I am on my own as to how fast I go. It will get plenty of use in my hands though.

That's handy, my German is almost non-existant (much to my embaressment  )

Keep 'em coming :D

Neil, D4 and myself are getting together next Thursday evening for a "Strategy" meeting - apparently at Neil's local so you can believe what you want - to thrash out plans for the register and forthcoming events.
