Following on from this thread...

http://thealpinaregister.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11453&highlight=e34+b10+touring

And this thread...

http://thealpinaregister.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10736

New exhaust as 17 years had taken it's toll on the original cats and centre box although the rear box was in remarkable condition and is still good so was retained.

The old and drafty...

New, shiny, big bore and air-tight...

Got bored with the black stitched handbrake and so got the needle and thread out to match it up to the OEM gearlever;

Then got busy with some stripes courtesy of Simon. The original options would have been just silver or gold in 1995; the silver would have been invisible against the Arctic Silver paint and I could not stomach the 'bling' look of the gold, so.....

Simon and I found some Ocean Blue stripes to try and match the Marine Blue leather interior. I had them fitted and I am very pleased with the results Very Happy

They do look dark grey/black from a distance but get up close and they very obviously blue....

Looking superb, that man! I'd even forgive you the dodgy boot badge 'cos I know you and the car looks soooo good Cool Am I right thinking you changed the rear springs, too? (sure I read that in another post...)

Yes, I changed the rear springs as the rear self-levelling delete by the PO had left the back end a little low so after lots of research I purchased some new springs to reset the ride height correctly.

When the car was a little anonymous the Alpina round badge gave passers-by a clue, now the full war-paint has been applied I think I may return to a BMW round badge Very Happy

Yup that works for me all day long. Especially like the second shot of new exhaust, looks fantastic. As you say think i'd revert to a rear BMW badge.

Looking good Cool

I'm guessing the exhaust note has even more of a rumble to it judging by the token gesture size of the mid silencers Rolling Eyes Laughing

Looking very nice Very Happy
Is that a powerflow exhaust you had made?
how much was it and what did you do about the cats?

How is the noise level? as i had a stainless system put on my e30 325 and it sounded awsome, but i feel it may be to much for the subtleness of the alpina for me.

The original had a knackered middle box and was starting to blow from the two-to-one collectors at the bottom of the down pipes; it was all original, including the cats. The back box was still in great shape with the original tailpipes so a new downpipe to back-box section was custom made up with two short 200 cell sports cats and two small centre section silencers to help suppress the flow a little to save the pressure on the 17 year old back-box ( a straight through section from the cats to the back-box was considered but ruled out for noise, potential drone and the back-box reasons).

Overall the effect is very good, dare I say perfect. Obviously just a little bit noisier at idle due to the stainless vs mild steel wall thickness but a very pleasing wooffle with a much greater effect further up the rev-range.

It was done by Mike at Longlife Chester who also took the trouble to salvage the original stainless steel Alpina logo'd silencer and catalyser plates, cleaned them up and welded them onto the new system. He also cleaned up the rear box while it was off.

My pleasure Kevin, I must say I wasn't sure when we first discussed the idea of blue stripes but I think it looks amazing. Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh at the Sytner meet in september.

I owe you a pint or three the night before Simon - the stripes look better in the flesh and amazing in the sunlight Cool

Do you have to wear your 'special' ALPINA sunglasses to view them with to prevent stripe blindness.

Really looking forward to seeing all you've done to her. She was already looking pretty fine for an old gal Cool
