DPF
DPF
Hi,I am new to the Alpina scene after recently selling my E46 M3,I hope this does not sound 'thick' but what is this 'DPF' problem that I keep hearing about? I am searching for a 2006-2008 four door D3,and just need to find out any potential problems.Thanks.

Kevin, the DPF collects the soot and other particulates to keep emissions super-clean. The DPF 're-generates' (cleans) itself during steady state running, and cars used mainly for short journies/city driving can get clogged-up as they don't get the opportunity to re-gen. They usually last around 100k-miles under normal circumstances (but all depends on car usage, obviously). DPF's are fitted to all modern diesels.

Somewhere around £1k-£1.2k, I understand, to do the job properly.
Shouldn't be an issue at the miles you're looking for. When you get it, just ensure it gets a regular high speed run if otherwise it does a lot of 'pottering around'

Not really. Some clutches can be 'juddery' (Dual Mass Flywheel 'characteristic') but that all depends on each individual car, and the Classic alloys on the Monoturbo cars can be a bit soft and prone to buckling. There have been a few having problems with steering column locks, so check that all works as it should. Tyres are expensive at around £300 a corner so look at them carefully (you're an ex-M3 owner, so you'll know all about that). Otherwise, nothing major coming to mind...but ALPINA-specific bits (eg badges) are expensive, so check their condition and negotiate accordingly.
The OBC can be vetted - check all the service data therein.....
